20,000+ tickets sold for the AFL and 17,000 for the NRL.
Blockbuster crowd building
The first day of ticket sales to Friday night's Preliminary Final have been impressive
The first day of ticket sales has seen thousands of tickets sold to Friday night’s Preliminary Final blockbuster between the Sydney Swans and Collingwood at ANZ Stadium.
The member pre-sale, which began at 9:00am this morning, is on track to sell 20,000-plus tickets before this evening’s 9:00pm cut-off.
Sydney Swans Chief Executive Andrew Ireland said the club is thrilled with the early response from Swans’ fans ahead of Friday night’s do-or-die clash with the Pies.
“We are on track to move 20,000-plus tickets today in the pre-sale,” Mr Ireland said.
“This great early response, plus the huge interest shown from approximately 10,000 ANZ Stadium members has set the scene for a blockbuster crowd for Friday night’s game.”
Mr Ireland encouraged all Sydney Swans members to take advantage of the final hours of the membership pre-sale and get on board for Friday night’s home final.
“As a football club we are urging Sydney-siders to get to ANZ stadium and cheer on the Swans in this important game, as the advantage a large home crowd provides cannot be replicated,” he said.
“With only a few hours remaining before tickets are open to the general public, our members should take advantage of their priority purchase option and support the Swans in Friday night’s final.”
Swans members accessing the pre-sale this evening will be required to enter the 12-digit barcode on their 2012 Sydney Swans membership card when prompted to secure their seats for the game.
Tickets will then go on sale to the general public at 12:00 midday on Tuesday through Ticketek.

you F'ing ****** bearsy ... as if I'd say it was 30K if it wasn't knowing its easy to check
that Souths story ..already picked up & reported on LU as being wrong... very wrong
officially 30,405 tickets sold to members ...at 8.15pm
will be reported at obviously ova 30K in tomorrows papers
also
the VFL is including ANZ members in its 21K
they are not included in the NRL's 31K
hence me saying the VFL is not doing cartwheels..

but is doing plenty of these ...

..... & ... these [-o< [-o< [-o<
their figures are quite concerning
the NRL's are on track for 80,000
and again......
No pressure Dave...

He could be right you know, X! We'll see.
As for this numbers $hit, here are some numbers you should pay attention to.....
57,000 from a capacity of 83,500 = 68.26% even with the massive Collingwood injection
25,000 from a capacity of 30,050 = 83.19% with NO Manly fans!! Thank God!
Win to the NRL I'd say, and 57,000 only? Souths and Canterbury will beat that!
GO STORM!

Moral victory? The AFL certainly got the financial victory. Even if the NRL get 80K they AFL made more money from the Swans game.

time to que these lil fellas
cha cha ..... cha cha cha
the National Rugby League hosted the largest preliminary Final crowd of either code tonight ... first time that has ever occured
& we didn't need our biggest or even .. 2nd biggest non grand final crowd to do it
our 3rd biggest prelim final crowd was enough to send the VFL packing
easily beating by over 13,000 the swines & collingdon
there were people .. including plenty in here .. who thought the vicky kicky might draw more

.....
& more then a 1000 more then the flogball game in Melbourne this arvo in a stadium with 20,000 more seats
70,354
a sign of the times ?
yes I believe it is .... while the VFL continues to die .. & the NRL goes from strength to strength
this will become a regular occurance in the coming years

You're easily excited. The only local derby final of all 4 matches and you won by a measly 1k.

the AFL had 127 for the round at 64k and the NRL only 96k at 48k.
The first NRL game above 50k for the year. the AFL have had 20 above 50k and 10 above 70k. Imagine if the tickets were the same price.
What about this sellout Dave? How disappointed you all must be.

I said our code would draw the biggest crowd of the prelim finals
I thought we'd need 80,000 to do it
geez
even I under estimated how far the VFL has fallen
10,000 less was enough

that was your stupidity. Since when is a non local derby going to get over 70k?
I predicted 55k and 65k. I was only 6k for both game combined. You were 10k off for one game.
While the NRLs prelim was a good crowd the hawks was fantastic. 60k of hawks fans and about 9k of Adelaide. Where as the NRL was probably evenly shared with 35k of each team. Meh, that's average really for a prelim final.

Mark you dunce. The NRL have even admitted counting staff, players etc in their crowd figure, not the AFL. That's what qldafl was referring too.
Pies is right too. The NRL crowd was a huge jump on last year so according to the NRL fans on this site that must be fabricated.
Finally, the AFLs 127k for the round would have generated around $12m. The NRLs cheaper tickets and lower total of 95k would have generated only $4.9m

A classic response from someone on the back foot mark.
