Xman, KE doesn't understand the game. That's clear as glass now if it wasn't before. If he understood the game he would know that there is no tanking. He would also know that the only thing that could possibly be boring about AFL would be an extremely low scoring game that isn't close. That only happens at local level, and even then it's not that bad.

He doesn't know these things, so his commentary is about as useful as a chocolate teapot.

Nuff said.

Indeed. As I have already said before, low picks in no way guarantee success, as Melbourne have found out recently when they lost a high draft pick to gws and another has failed to develop as expected. The damage done to the clubs culture, fans, exposure and reputation far outways the potential benefit of a slightly better draft pick which comes with no guaranteed path to success anyway.

Tanking simply does not exist. [-(

"If they're going to try and do that there's going to be plenty of penalties, which I thought is what all the fans don't want to see,'' Smith told the Big Sports Breakfast this morning.

"They want a free-flowing game and I think all the players and coaches want that as well.

Good point made here by smith. The fix for the boring trend plaguing the NRL will not come easy. #-o

But what about the game itself, Norm, ... what do you think of NRL football in 2012?

"It's pretty boring," this gentleman of the game offered, straight-faced.
Hmm even Norm Provan agrees!

Bill Harrington has already said wrestling isn't illegal and the refs won't penalise it. Therefore it's up to the coaches to instruct the players to stop it. As if thats going to happen!

Coaches will do anything they can to win, even if it kills the entertainment, which means they will defend using delaying tactics to stop the opposition from scoring as best they can.

Wrestling is here to stay, and so is boring RL!

who said it was illegal ?
its part of tackling a ball carrier ........... but the " move" or " stand" call can come sooner from the referees if Bill determines its required
if players over do it
penalty
if they over do it again
penalty again

believe me marcus
players will get away from the ball carrier quicker from here on

fast open RL
problem solved

meanwhile .... AFL still has cr@p teams a plenty

''There is wrestling in the game, and I would prefer that there wasn't, but until the tackle is complete or we call held there is nothing illegal about it. We jump on the ones that are illegal, like the chicken wing … but anything else is not illegal.
''It becomes illegal once the referee says: 'Stop it, get off him, held, move,' or whatever call he may make. That is when you impact on the speed of the play-the-ball, that is when we penalise you, that is what is in the guidelines and that is what we have been doing.

"Yeah it is a concern, I really hope they don't go out and referee different to the way we were told they were going to in the pre-season," Cartwright said.

"I really can't see them coming out and being a major change midway through the season. I think it would be a bit of a recipe for disaster if it happens.

"I don't think we need to put pressure on referees to decide how quick the ball is going to be played. We see a figure bandied around of 0.2 of a try less (per game) and I just think we're jumping at shadows."

Sounds to me like the Refs arent changing the way they officiate the game Dave, nor do the coaches want changes. [-(
