Wow ... You Are obviously more concerned about it then I thought. As I said, most companies apply spin when trying to sell their product ... Naturally. As mentioned nrl apparently claiming 50000 or so Victorians had a rl experience???

AFL is still significantly bigger in Sydney than it was 30 years ago wouldn't you agree?

Sydney swans have carved a nice niche if loyal supporters that now warrants swans getting media attention. Would you agree?

Aussie rules leagues in Sydney ... Being 5 .. Is pretty good too for nrl heartland. Could you imagine if rl had that amount of participation and leagues in Victoria ?
AFL has done well in growing the game in Sydney. Numerous players from Sydney play AFL at the top level which is your real indicator on grass roots support and infiltration into Sydney.
Not concerned ,because I have had the Participation V Real numbers(REG PLAYERS)debate many times.
The only real gauge of popularity is REG players in regular weekend comps.
I have never claimed that RL is big in VIC...
But the reason I post the LIES by AFL house is because so many fumble ********* take as gospel the BS sprouted by Vlad & co..

They believe its only a matter of time till their game takes over & RL is dying.
I try to show the reality..as posted above..yet most cover their ears & say you're lying ...

Strange mob.

& I don't like the Participation numbers used by the NRL...they never used to .

But I suppose if the opposition can get away with BS numbers then why not follow.

Would you agree that Aussie rules and AFL have grown significantly in Sydney in the past 30 years ?

I am wondering whether participation numbers have increased in Sydney over these years ? Was there af leagues in Sydney 30 years ago?

How many Sydney born players running now in AFL as to compared to 30 years ago.

AFL has been in SYD for 100 yrs ,so there should be long standing comps..

I don't care if participation numbers increase decrease or diassappear.
Registered players are the real measure..
So many fumblefans preach the participation player today will be the future player in 100 yrs..Like its a certain thing.
Correct me if im wrong but Auskik has been in SYD for yrs .Where are these kids from 10-15 yrs ago .. There should be an explosion of actual players..Yet junior numbers have dropped.

When a report into the HEALTH of AFL NSW says junior numbers have dropped from 2009-2012,& they mask this with PARTICIPATION numbers then you see that things are not as great as made out.

Fact is AFL has a significant presence in Sydney as player numbers indicate. AFL has significant interest with a significant number of Sydney spiders as evidenced by player numbers, number of leagues, membership, crowds. Leading to significant media coverage.

Look I don't care that AFL is the last in codes participation wise in Sydney or the code with the least interest TV wise - being someone who played juniors in Sydney I care that local players are in the AFL - to me thats the true test if AF is alive and well - that's why I really don't think internationally were on the same page as RL - there just isn't enough top level players coming from OS - but NSW and QLD there are about 100 players out of approx 800 players and rookies. Thats whats important! As for participation I agree entirely with you ONLY club registered players are relevant - I don't think Auskick is relevant, AFL 9's, a RL experience, touch footy comps etc etc. ONLY playing registered club footy is really important. As for the drop I think all codes experience these fluctuations - Bendigo RL re- formed and start pre-season after disbanding due to lack of numbers. In 5 yrs if GWS are firing and Swans are still competitive it may increase participation in club regos - conversely if Cronk, Slater and Smith leave Melb Storm you may well get a decrease?

wow cant believe swans' crowds have decreased over 10 years. i thought they were supposed to be doing really well??

how is he talking out his ass? Swines averaged 34k in 2001, 38k in 1999 and 31k last year up from 29k the year before.

it's basically a 1 city team with GWS complete trash so it should be expected to have decent crowds. check TV ratings though, absolutely abysmal. and not to mention the fact there are 9 other sydney teams.

no one gives a shit about AFL in sydney except a few bumblers from victoria and it also seems to be very popular in some mental asylums...no idea why though. :)))

well then touch is also NOT non-contact since you touch them. " Non-contact sports are those where participants should have no possible means of impact, such as sprinting, swimming, darts or snooker, where players use separate lanes or take turns of play."

also, don't forget oz-tag.

SCG has had renovations this season and 2012 - which mean a lot of members were relocated from their usual possy at the ground it has had an affect on attendances - but even RL crowd averages fell this year - that's why he's talking out his arse - they haven't dropped dramatically and are still the highest attended of all the codes. He's just trying to get a response again by making bland statements - as has been pointed out to him - the Raiders home crowd average fell this year with the Brumbies having a higher average - so does the same apply to Canberra? Phy don't fall the trap of acting like RD - he doesn't debate he just contradicts - he hates AF and therefore will never concede ANYTHING that makes the sport look good.

Of the 102 first-timers drafted this year, from the national and rookie draft pools, just eight came from the northern states - Queensland, New South Wales and the Northern Territory. It was two before the rookie draft, with only Jonathan Freeman and Jake Barrett taken by the Brisbane Lions and the Giants, who had first dibs on them.

No player was drafted from the Northern Territory this year, at all. Tasmania made up some of the slack; it usually averages a couple of draftees and had five kids taken in the national draft and another two rookies
