Hey cos789.

Somewhat. But you didn't address the fact that it's a serious problem for the NRL. In fact you defend it as though it's a good thing when in fact like I said it was sucking the game dry. Any passion against the Broncos or Manly pales into insignificance compared to the passion against Collingwood or Port Adelaide for example. The passion against Collingwood in particular would in fact be comparable to the passion between the sides at SOO, just to put that into the correct perspective.214Four wrote:I didnt reply because i thought i had already tried to explain the very thing you were asking in my post, you one you replied with your question.NRLCrap1 wrote:Did anyone notice that 214 ignored my question? Gee whiz I wonder what I said wrong......
Basically what i tried to say in that post was that the AFL has a different culture when it comes to supporting its sporting teams. an AFL fan will get alot more upset if their team looses than a NRL fan would, some people would call that more passionate. but RL fans are just as or more passionate than an AFL supporter when it comes to the SOO, and i dont see anything wrong with that as NSW or QLD are just another one of our 'teams'.
Now you asked why is this?? I dunno, maybe like in my comment the fact that as a RL fan growing up its programed into you to hate the other state, from your family, friends, media. whereas the club competition there is none of that bar brisbane (well it was the QLD team) and manly.
Maybe the whole 'RL fans have less passion' is not at all correct and it just seems that way because Rugby league has higher levels of the game/more avenues in the game than just the national club competition, and these REP games are also supported strongly by RL fans so their passion is actually not more or less than AFL fans but the same just more spread out.
And maybe it needs to be looked at from a different perspective. for 30 years SOO has always been close, and both states are bitter rivals who hate to loose, and the SOO games have always been entertaining... sounds very much like two top of the table clubs heading into the grandfinal. so maybe thats why theres so much passion for SOO, you AFL guys have to imagine what it would feel if your club was playing in the GF then times it by 3!
I hope now i somewhat answered your question.

Australia is a sports mad country. When it's third most popular sport has trouble in it's heartland drawing crowds you can't ignore it. You should be addressing it. (AFL and cricket are the top two)

SOO is not club footy - it's an exhibition match - yes popular but NOT club footy - upper cuts to that pea brain of yours! Wanker! Care to finally man up and admit you were wrong about Harry Kewell - c'mon stop being a pussy and man up - stop running and face the truth RD!Raiderdave wrote:NRLCrap1 wrote:Somewhat. The fact is RL people like to point to 3 games of SOO and say look there you are proof that RL is the most popular sport in Australia! But neglect the fact that the NRL competition is losing ground not just to AFL but Soccer and RU in their MAIN club competition - SOO IS NOT club footy but state rep footy there is nothing to compare it to in AFL, A-League and now RU. They are not apples for apples! So the question is very relevant is it improving RL as a whole or in the long term holding it back? Does RL wants to be a national sport and not just a sport where two states have an involvement? Kids in Vic, SA or WA won't take the sport as a serious alternative if they can't compete at the highest level - thats the point!ParraEelsNRL wrote:Still Rugby League, just as test cricket and 20/twenty cricket are still Cricket.
The size of a game is not judged solely on TV viewers, lame arse! Include the number of players in open age and the crowds and cricket gets ahead of RL. Include the juniors and soccer leap frogs everyone.ParraEelsNRL wrote:Top 2, yet the NRL crowds shit on Cricket, TV ratings smash it and the TV rights deal is under half what the NRL got, yet it's bigger than RL but not the AFL?
