So there's 70k plus every week now?

Sorry that aint true my bimbo friend. The big blockbusters, under your and Xman's, definition, only draw the big crowds because they are 'an event'. Your words not mine TLPG so perhaps you should heed your own words if you disagree and

No, big crowds go to games that are interested, which include events. The NRL have 4 a season, which are not regular season games, but events. The AFL have them regularly with regular games included.

I'm not talking about big crowds here Xman I'm talking about increased crowds and big numbers of viewers. In melbourne the viewers watching origin have been increasing, considerably. And i've seen nothing from you mob suggesting that crowds and viewers for the melbourne storm are decreasing. Thus it appears melbourne as a city is starting to fall in love with RL.

Ahem - 2011 average crowd for the Storm: 14,339
2012 average: 13,736
http://stats.rleague.com/rl/crowds/melbourne.html

Looks like a decrease to me!

And you should be talking about big crowds - because in thugby they are nowhere to be seen in the NRL except in the finals!! Heck, you lot haven't pulled more than 50,000 to a home and away game in Sydney since 1967!! (Double headers don't count) You only get those sorts of crowds in Brisbane and even they haven't pulled more than 59,000!!

If Melbourne loved league they would watch it no matter what the format. They don't. The ratings for NRL are abysmal. They watch SOO and only when it's on Wednesday night and not up against other sport. SOO is an event where one state is up against another in their chosen sport. That's the attraction, not RL. If it was the NRL would rate well.

TLPG is that you? Noooooooo. Seriously you just answered a question correctly!!!

Thanks. Yes it looks like a decrease but its a very very small decrease. Can you please post the numbers up when we have comparable data i.e. total season 2011 vs total season 2012. We should also see whether we can get the numbers for tv viewers of the storm in melb 2011 vs 2012. Til then we can only really go on the origin numbers.

But seriously, thanks for taking the time to read and understand my question. I cant remember the last time you were capable of this. Nice one :D

I understand every question, except when you insert ambiguity and I expect you to clear that up. And of course you won't because you're lazy!

Get off this forum. You're a menace to a good fight.

You're wrong. Melbourne loves AFL. It will NEVER adopt thugby. Never.

That's it. I'm done on this thread.

I never said melbourne doesnt love marngrook. Its a big city though and along with more and more population flow and migration between australias larger cities melbourne has much room for RL. And arent the melbournites showing it in their support. :)

There has been quite a bit of talk about SOO in Melbourne and there is an audience for the concept no matter what the sport, but let's not confuse that with an interest in RL.

The NRL had 3 home and away games last year and averaged over 50k ratings. This year theyve averaged closer to 20k.

I would say that's convincing evidence Melbourne are not falling in love with RL.

Xman I agree with your theory to a point. By your theory, the tv ratings for the sydney AFL Gf's in 05 and 06 mean jack diddly. I tend to agree with this. It was an event where a large sum of doey eyed chardonnay sipping sydneyites heard the name of their city and with blissful ignorance went "go sydney!". A larger bunch of dopes may not have congregated with the same ignorant support in the history of this country, well perhaps barring WW1. So yes there is an 'event factor'. However in the origin case there's no melbourne and no victoria. And in any case some of those doey eyed sydneyites have become fans of marngrook, i've seen the type in the members seating at the SCG yelling out "comon ref!" So from the numbers who watched the syd GF events id agree that sydney was starting to fall in love with marngrook. The same applies to the massive and increasing numbers of melbournites watching the SOO (very close to 1 in 10 melbournites now). Yes many may be ignoramouses in there to go against nsw, but many of those will have enjoyed the sport they viewed. There's clear evidence that melbourne is startin to fall in love with RL. I rest my case.

If that last bit was true, and the AFL did have more 'events', on a more regular basis. Then wouldn't they have, more, higher rating games than the NRL? and they dont!

XMan , you make it difficult to tell whether you or Demetriou spews out the most crap.
