for the 2013-14 final between brisbane and west sydney, 524,000 watched on fox and 772,000 watched it on sbs, combined total of nearly 1.3 million

it was also televised live in 57 countries including the UK, Italy, Mexico, USA, China, Brazil, South Africa, Ireland etc etc etc while another 52 countries televised it on delay or full match highlights

a global reach of 250 million people in total. Other than the confirmed 5 million people in china that watched it live, we will never get an exact figure of how many actually tuned in but in soccer circles i know plenty of non-australians that watched at least some of it. The A-League has tv deals set with all these countries, many on top and important sports channels

40 million people watched the asian cup draw in australia earlier this year - that's right - the DRAW, can't wait to see the audiences tune in for the matches

where are the morals of the world when a filthy cheat like luis suarez can make $400,000 a week while honest hardworking aussies like blake ferguson and anthony cherrington are being given the cold shoulder!

Maybe he seen AFL in front of it and automatically assumed it meant ratings. You know how confused these fans get, heck, they can watch replays of their biggest games and not realise it's a repeat.

They're a switched on lot.

'Reflex action': Peter Filandia bites Chad Davis during Port Melbourne's clash with Springvale. Image: Courtesy of Channel 10.
Former Swans player Peter Filandia has been suspended for 10 matches for biting the scrotum of an opponent.

Filandia, Port Melbourne's captain and assistant coach, pleaded guilty to the charge, arguing he was provoked and that he bit Springvale opponent Chad Davis after his face became smothered.

Filandia told the Victorian Football League tribunal he could not breathe when he became entangled with Davis, and panicked and bit him as a reflex action.

Filandia said he did not know what part of Davis's body he had bitten. But a doctor for Springvale said Davis had suffered bruising to his scrotum and had lost a small amount of blood.

During last night's hearing, Filandia, who played 83 AFL games with Essendon and Sydney, apologised to Davis and said he was thankful that he was not badly injured.

AFL tribunal chairman Eddie Power also ordered Filandia to undergo player counselling before he resumed playing.
In Sydney, four players, including former Swan Craig O'Brien, were called to front the Sydney Australian Football League tribunal after a match on Sunday which left two players in hospital.

One player suffered internal and external injuries and had to spend the night in hospital, while another received 15 stitches to the face after things turned ugly midway through the match between St George and Balmain.

Thirteen reports resulted from the match, from striking to abusive language. Last night O'Brien was suspended for one match.

Another ex-Swan, Balmain's Troy Luff, said in his column for redandwhiteonline.com that former AFL players in the competition tended to be targeted by the opposition.

"I ... saw something that I haven't seen since I played under-16 football in Traralgon and that was seeing a player sent off, in this case it was Craig O'Brien," Luff wrote.

"You can't blame him, though, as there seems to be no protection for him, and being an ex-AFL player you are always going to get that extra attention.

"The second half is where all the action started, a few of [their] players were getting a bit frustrated ... a few brawls started with a few punches thrown, [taking] the focus off the game."

Yas can hark on all you like about hoppa and co but the difference is, in soccer players who take dives and fake injuries are accepted. In RL this sort of shit, or the anal probe is not accepted by fans nor officials.

Soccer. Theres something very very wrong. [-X
