Titans have had 4 years in a row of falling attendances. Since 2008 crowds have dropped 33%. This is in Heartland btw. They just lost their popular (if underperforming) skipper, and by the looks of things, have no decent replacement for halfback. I really doubt they'll increase their average to 15k. Time will tell.Raiderdave wrote:Titans to keep their average around the 15K mark as they'll probably be there or there abouts again in 2013 , I think they'll be in the hunt for the 8 for a large part of the season but similar to this year .. not quite make it , I think they'll win 8 to 10 games & finish 10th
the Thuns to struggle to stay above 10K ..... as they'll be bottom 4 again in 2013
they may pick up a win or 2 more next year , but essentially be way off the pace ... cannon fodder for most teams .. most games .. simply as average as they come.

Re: Battle of the Gold Coast Crowds 2013 Predictions
The Sydney derby will take a while to grow based on the relative competitive position of the Swans to GWS. Though in their favour this year is the fact that the Giants' home derby is round 1, and will ride on the success of the Swans' flag, and the Swans' home derby will be at the SCG, which will improve the atmosphere.Striker wrote:When I said homelands I meant the homeland of the sports! You watch the crowds of the AFL derbies in Sydney and Brisbane plummet! Same thing would happen in Melbourne if a second team was there, and the NRL know it! So Channel 9's opinion is irrelevant! In fact if we had an extra game to offer we might have been able to get a better deal than we got!
I'd be interested to hear QueenslandISafl's opinion on this, but I get the impression that the fact the Lions and Suns are on a similar upwards trajectory may help add spice to their budding rivalry. Still needs the 'derby moment' to spark the rivalry (Kickett in the WA Derby, Jammo v Cummings in Showdown), but having close games can only help it grow.

So a decrease like this is unusual and means the team will fail, right?Raiderdave wrote:33% gone from year ones support for the ThunsXman wrote:and the suns have been bottom while the Titans are shrinking despite having 2 seasons they finished in the top 4Raiderdave wrote:yes ... it took 4 years for the Titans to lose 33% of their support in their first 2 years

1) 2 figures isn't enough to draw a trend.
2) Titans are an nRL club in nRL heartland. Suns are an AFL club in nRL heartland. Not exactly apples and apples.
But only time will tell. I believe the Suns will have a higher average attendance than the Titans in 2013.

So where's your team in Townsville then?? No chance like I said!QueenslandISAFL wrote:maybe in sydney but not in queensland you hack, we are bandwagoners, back in 2002 the AFL grand final rated 750k in queensland alone, and after brisbane went out of form, so did the ratings.Striker wrote:The AFL has no chance in New South Wales or Queensland! The ONLY reason Nine is getting it's way is because the deal was on their terms. I said we got diddled! But it doesn't change the fact that their opinion is irrelevant.

No chance, because when you have multiple clubs the average is bound to be down on the competition! Combine the Sydney NRL clubs and then look again. It's closer than you think and once places like Allianz is fixed up and improvements happen at Parramatta, Penrith, Kogarah, Brookvale etc the NRL will be back in front!Xman wrote:no chance.......what?Striker wrote:The AFL has no chance in New South Wales or Queensland! The Swans are the highest attending team in Sydney. The Lions have very healthy crowds and were beating the broncos when they were a decent team. Id say thats a lot better than no chance.
Further, the Warriors dropped their crowds from 24k in their first year to 8k in 4 years. The storm also dropped significantly from their first year, despite regular success. No chance???![]()
The Titans will eventually wreck the Suns, the Lions will never compete long term with the Broncos and we have the Cowboys as well!! Where's the AFL's third team in QLD huh?
NO CHANCE!!

Re: Battle of the Gold Coast Crowds 2013 Predictions
no one ever said AFL would take over from RL as the biggest sport in NSW or QLD. But their high attendances prove the Swans and Lions are well established and have healthy following in these cities.Striker wrote:No chance, because when you have multiple clubs the average is bound to be down on the competition! You realise many AFL teams draw bigger crowds at the MCG compared to AAMI park?
Melbourne average 29k at Etihad and 35k at the MCG
The Tigers average 38k at etihad and 40k at the MCG
The bombers average 43k at etihad and 49k at the MCG
your point is ridiculous.

It's not, because the MCG is better in foul weather even though it's open! A roof is not essential for a good venue! As long as there is adequate cover!

the pictures of all Australias stadiums show AAMI park is no worse than any other stadium in Australia. In fact itd be better than many.
Weather only affects some games. What about all the poor storm crowds in perfect conditions?
The storm played at Etihad in 2001 and averaged less than 12k, a drop of over 2k per game from their previous venue. Explain this one please....more seats, better stadium, perfect conditions for players and fans...

Selective photography again?
And I said in another thread that the venue (Etihad) treated us like $hit. The capacity crowd that went to the SOO shows what happens when they take a different attitude.
