Because the Saints, North, Bulldogs and Suns have no supporter base

Brisbane is a bandwagoner sporting city Raiderdave. You only need to go back a few years to when they last played finals football to see the sort of crowds that they were getting. The nRL won't allow the Broncos not to make the top 8 because they know that their supporters will fall off in droves.

Wow, that's actually pretty embarrassing for the nRL. Weren't South Sydney in the prelim this year? The Lions missed out on the finals again and still average a higher crowd than them! nRL must just be that boring to watch

The Lions are never going to be taken out of the comp. For AFL in Brisbane to survive the Lions need to be in the AFL.

I just feel that there are too many teams in Melbourne & WB & NM are the least supported so maybe they should be relocated or taken out of the comp.

When the Lions start winning again they will get heaps more to there games just like they did in 02, 03, 04 & to a lessor extent 05.

yet I read where Souths are on track for a 1 Million dollar profit in 2012
while the wions will be lucky to avoid another 3 million dollar plus loss ..... yep thats embarrasing alright

My point was valid. You derided the Lions' membership and supporter numbers. I pointed out that while their numbers are certainly down, they still have more active support than most of the NSWRL.

It's exactly the point. Why would the AFL kill off/relocate teams that have more active support than much of the nRL? Saints and North both have more active supporters than the biggest team in Sydney, Canterbury. Would you advocate moving Canterbury to Darwin?

Collingwoods crowd average is the bottom 6 NRL clubs average combined.

I hate Collingwood but that is impressive. Or is it just embarrassing for the NRL

Brisbane sport followers bandwagon jump when teams are flying well. Look at the crowds at Reds and Roar games recently.

When the Lions had their success on field, they had a higher average attendance than the Broncos 6 years in a row (2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005). You either have to admit that bandwagon support jumped on the Lions during their successful period, or that for 6 years, Australian Football was more popular than Rugby League in Brisbane.

Personally, I choose to believe that the Brisbane sporting public jumps on a winner, and jumps off when the winning stops.
