Seven currently holds the free-to-air rights, while the pay TV rights are held by Foxtel in a deal that is set to expire at the end of next year.

Negotiations with the AFL over a new deal with those two media giants are ongoing, while ViacomCBS-owned Network Ten and Paramount+, as well as Nine Entertainment are also reportedly in the mix.

Beatup, you need to follow bummy and read my previous posts on this. CBS and 9 aren't fair dinkum pal. Gilty is now begging 7 and Fox to hand over more money. Fumblehouse has hit the wall. There is no competition. It's a crock!!!!

Hope that helps!!!

I'll tell ya whats happened here folks

the aflol have the offers from foxtel & Ch 7 based on no change to the current format
a CPI increase .. nothing more.
7/foxtel have seen off the aflol's fake bidding tension & called their bluff so theres no valid reason to pay any more , they're business's not charities.

the aflol's reaction to these offers

8-[

so
as the article says , they are desperately trying to see what they can do to extract more $$ by changing the format.
SA & WA to lose their guarantee of all games on FTA
Is this worth more from foxtel ?... absolutely it is
But...

any gains here will be lost when Ch 7 offers less then current money because they will lose viewers & will demand they be compensated.
So what will the aflol give them
Regular Thursday night games &.. night GF's
yep Ch 7 are happy & back to a CPI increase on their current deal.

so the numbers
current deal 416 mill
CPI .. 21 Mill
437 Mill

WA & SA to foxtel
20 mill

457 mill

a few $ shy of 600 mill tho eh   :(/ :(/

So do you think the AFL deal will be maintain the same money difference to that of what the NRL.ARL got ior will the gap grow or become smaller? do we even know what the NRL/ARL deal was?
the AFL signed a 2 year deal extension with new rights 2023 and 2024
NRL have signed a 5 year extension beginning in 2023 and ending in 2027

the deals done between the codes when NRL includes the Dolphins extra money has AFL slightly ahead.

the current negotiation's, who knows...
if the AFL get a better deal than the recent 2 year extension, it will effect the fans, the players will get more money and the fans less FTA

AFL rights for 2023-24 went for 473m pa. (946m over years)
NRL rights for the same period to 2027 went for "over 400m" pa.

theres every chance the NRL deal to 2027 is less than the AFL deal at 418m per year before COVID, and much less than the 473m per year the AFL is on from 2023-24..

Doesn't the AFL contract for 2023 - 24 include Telstra 5g sponsorship Wookie as well as possible unknown other. And surely the fact that they will fail to make a profit in those 2 years must also come into it .

There's "every chance" that my aunties my uncle too bummy lolololololol!!!! In other words you haven't got a clue pal. The NRL deal is commercial in confidence. The only thing we know for sure is that it's 'over' $400M. So there is every chance that it's more than $418M and could be as high or higher than $473M.

Them's the facts pal!!!!!

Theres every chance you write this will nodding at a wall in a strait jacket at an asylum somewhere too.

Commercial in confidence becase the ARLC is shit scared of being swamped by the AFL after their announcement AGAIN as has happened every time since 2001.

If it was high enough theyd have announced a higher figure. No one says "400m+" if its a lot higher.

It includes Telstra sponsorship. Seven, Fox and Telstra were all part of the announcement. Like the League announcement, no one really knows what the contra part is - although the AFL have continued to release this figure every year.

Whether they profit or loss is irrelevant to the amount they get for rights in this context. The AFL predict a return to normal revenue levels in 2024, this is not the same as making a loss in 2023-24.
