AFL has been claiming this for decades. Still hasn't come even close to happening.
The Swans do well in Sydney's inner city because they get the homosexual men and inner city types following them when they are playing well. AFL has specifically marketed themselves towards this community, from the Gay Pride Rounds to the scantily clad men playing their game, to a ban on cheerleaders.

But when the team isn't doing well, the crowds always drop dramatically, even with the fan base they aim at.

I also think the AFL generally target the general population as there really isn’t a distinction in AFL states like there was/is between rl and ru.

all of Sydney is the last frontier for stickinsectball ... I mean the NRLW did outrate the swines prelim in Sydney , add all of NSW too ... If you fumble bumble & miss in Newcastle or Wollongong or on the Central Coast , Bathurst .. Dubbo .. Tamworth ... you're referred to a psychiatrist for a mental health assessment

Same in QLD , only the ex pat twerps are actually interested in singlets & noodle arms up there ,

these teams have been in GFs before & it made ZERO difference , the fact they're playing each other will have no more impact then their previous appearances & may in fact have less

Its the first time they have ever played as Sydney & Brisbane. It will be the most watched sporting event since Cathy Freeman won in the 400 metres final at the 2000 Sydney Olympics.

This is Australia's Super Bowl. Nothing comperes to it especially when the 2 clubs are from Rugby city's.

Australia will shut down next Saturday at 2:30 when the first bounce happens.

It makes no difference its the first time they're playing each other .. zilch , they've been there plenty of times & played the big Melbourne clubs & rated about as high as an ord NRL club game
& this will be no different

as for most watched event since .... ... , I'll predict it won't get near the 3.8 Mil who watched last years

The Courier Mail & Sydney papers have both the swans & lions front & back pages.

Also tickets are impossible to get. How exciting is this!!

While the NRL preliminary's will barley sell out.

What a great week this is for Australia's game!!
