Wookie had a great response to this, which i thought was well said..
Look, AFL - the league - is growing in NSW and QLD. Whether Australian football - the SPORT - is having meaningful growth outside of Auskick, might be debatable.
The AFL is not going to supplant NRL in the sporting hierarchy of NSW and QLD any time soon. And the way the NRL is growing now? Its not even close.
Likewise in Victoria, the Storm and the NRL are doing great things and their development work is proceeding well. However they arent going to overtake the AFL there either.
If anything both codes are capitalising on the inability of rugby union to do anything meaningful with itself.
I would think we can all be happy with the reality of these things without resorting to ridiculous predictions

Yep. The Wookster is right here. Its a pity that when he comes on this site he turns into a manic yelling screeching fumbleball zealot. In his heart he knows the truth.

Just got to watch this - on reddit and was interesting reading the comments following.
Personally - I think Robbo is delusional with the statement although noted comments from rl people about how with rl some people have the swans (or giants) as their second club - but even this commentator was saying the comment was far off the mark - of course many (if not all) felt the same. There was acknowledgment though of how well AFL was doing and discussion about filling the ru good but also spreading a little into other areas like Cronulla.

Re: “Before we’re dead AFL will take over Rugby League (in NSW)”
AFL has been claiming this for decades. Still hasn't come even close to happening.
The Swans do well in Sydney's inner city because they get the homosexual men and inner city types following them when they are playing well. AFL has specifically marketed themselves towards this community, from the Gay Pride Rounds to the scantily clad men playing their game, to a ban on cheerleaders.
But when the team isn't doing well, the crowds always drop dramatically, even with the fan base they aim at.
