Both of you are showing a lack of understanding of the true level of passion that underlies State of Origin. You make every attempt to put it down through points of trivia, instead of acknowledging it's depths of feelings on both sides of the border. No AFL rivalry can claim that depth of passion. Whilst Aussie Rules may have a general presence in New South Wales and Queensland higher than that of rugby league in the other states, you show me interest in any AFL rivalry in the rugby league states that matches that of the interest in State of Origin in Victoria, South Australia, Western Australia and Tasmania. State of Origin has the nation's interest whenever it happens. The whole nation.

Oh please. the whole nation? You actually seen the tv ratings for SoO in Adelaide and Perth. Novelty factor in Melbourne inflates the perceived level of interest there too.

We know - we invented SOO.
However there have been a lot of threads on just how much SOO is adversely affecting the nnrl.

Geez the rampant fear & foaming over SOO has begun early this yr.

The poor fumblers just got over the RLWC .There was much feet stamping & Gnashing of teeth.
Now they are starting up again..

And the AFL missed the boat on it in the long term. They failed to ignite the same passions between Victoria and South Australia. That's a very big criticism I have for Aussie Rules.

You really know FA about Australian Football do you.
WA invented SOO and sold out Subiaco of a Tuesday afternoon.
Victoria and South Australia have a rivalry that goes back over 100 years.
Why don't you try attending some games and updating your knowledge.

I have attended games and hold a Western Bulldogs membership. I know the history, and the AFL failed to take advantage of it like rugby league has with New South Wales and Queensland. You do not know me very well do you?

No, you don't respect the power of State of Origin. Particularly as it relates to television ratings. Show me an AFL home and away game that has rated higher than the top rated State of Origin games.
SOO doesn't necessarily invoke more passion, it engages the majority of NRL supporters including fringe supporters who don't follow the NRL closely. A lot of this relates to the rivalry, not the sport alone.

And regarding ratings, the SOO is midweek in prime time. Compare that to the AFL gf which is shown in one of the ratings dead spots, Saturday arvo.

but but but

   :(/ :(/ :(/ :_<> :_<> :_<> :_<>

Rugby League SOO
Australias biggest sporting Rivalry
Rugby League SOO
Australias most watched sporting event

VFL biggest & best

a pale sick shadow of the above

they did in the 80s and early 90s SOO was big. but the clubs started making their players unavailable for it because their stars where getting injured, therefor it was interrupting the clubs H&S. eventually the AFL scrapped it because the clubs didnt want it.
when the AFL has many sell outs during the year, due to 100 plus years of hatred between two suburban clubs, why do you think so many people pay for memberships & turn up to games

the NRL its qld vs NSW they are brought up US VS THEM, where does the interest lie? in the actual game or the fact qld versing NSW in something. SOO is also an excuse to turn up to a bbq mid week or host your own and get drunk with mates.

if there was real interest in NRL why are the crowds so shit, why is club membership so shit. why is the NRL revenue so shit and relys on SOO bringing in a large portion of its revenue out side of the broadcast rights?

SOO is nothing but a hyped up state vs state gimmick

 Cos you're right, but also wrong here. I agree cracker knows FA about footy. In regards to specifics about playing footy he's inclined to believe the ramblings of a delusional u10s novice country umpire over a bloke who has played several season of the game. This is just one of his downfalls in obtaining accurate knowledge.

But in this instance he has put the point forwards that SOO is the biggest RIVALY. Not one of you gits have been able to show another rivalry that is bigger in the AFL because you simply cant. :D

I hope cracker gets a lesson in why I support league on these forums rather than AFL. The AFL supporters are generally quite simply, ignorant wankers.

how so, the ratings and Crowds keep declining?
the NRL hasn't tried to expand any where
as origin gets more popular the game of NRL is dying= bandwagon fans, a bunch of Qlders wanting to see NSW get thumped again. an excuse to get pissed mid week!
