If they don't have a major sponsor the beginning of the season, watch Gallop jump to their defence!

No, some was Internet rights. My understanding is Telstra will honor the AFLs agreement. It does put serious doubts on the NRLs Internet component though.
That's my understanding.
Telstra iscontracted to pay the money.
It will affect the nrl decision.

IMO the decision will be appealed (successfully) or legislation will be changed.
The argument Optus is using is similar to the current file sharing and the music industry scenario.

The Sharks are still without a major sponsor and can't even afford to put on a chief executive.

That article is a hoot.
Lists the all the struggling nrl clubs.
Lists all the nrl's problems.
Basically nrl crying poor.
Shows their hand at pinning their hopes on a TV payout.
Gallop citing his regime' WTF!!

The Optus decision has no effect on TV rights, Beaussie. That only affect online and mobile phone rights. The deal between the AFL and Telstra only is the one that was thrown into the gutter, not the one between the AFL and Seven/Foxtel.

Cronulla doesn't have a CEO. That means it's a rudderless ship with no one in administration. That's a joke, never mind the lack of a major sponsor.

150 Million of the giggleball 1.25 Bill rights was internet & online money from Tesltra

thats now back to .......... ZERO , thats money the AFL has already committed for the next 5 years
they're f'd ... no wonder they're spluttering & huffing all ova the place

the gumbyball rights are now effectively at 1.1 Billion ... still more then it should be
but now a lot less for the NRL to .... beat

our internet rights are different to the AFL's
we were never counting on getting the same amount they did .. in our Billion plus

which will still be ..... a billion plus

Here is the 2010 annual report for the Newcastle knights. Oh dear!

http://img.nrl.sportal.com.au/site/_con ... source.pdf

Gate receipts and sponsorship income of around 12mil. Total income of just over 16mil! #-o. A loss of over 1m or Over 6% of their yearly income! This is unsustainable surely!

yes & thats why their memberships will go from 7,286 in 2010.... to around 22,000 in 2012
& Nathan Tinkler now pumps 10 million a year into the joint ....
& they'll get an extra 3 million a year from the NRL when the Grant is increased from 2013

thats the losses not only seen off , its destroyed......... they are in a very strong financial position from here on are the Knights

as ALL NRL clubs will be

evidence ?
the AFL saying they'll fight it ..... why would they bother if they are getting their money you wombat
what are they fighting exactly ?

the deal with Telstra was for exclusive rights
the AFL can't provide this ........... the deal is null & void

why would anyone pay 30 mill a year for something they can get .......... for free

oh thats right

they wouldn't ...............

No, not quite right.

AFL will get paid by telstra. Nobody else will.
Telstra will be supplying a live feed.
Optus will be supplying a slightly delayed FTA reproduction.
The big winner will of course be...................... channel 7.
Optus will be showing channel 7!!!!. #-o #-o #-o

They already have been paid. What the AFL is POed about is that Optus can now provide the service that they haven't paid the AFL for.
