The NBA showing the AFL how its done

Post by King-Eliagh »

Wow! The NBA commissioner's recent decision to impose a life ban on the LA Clippers owner who recently was exposed for making racist remarks about the appearance of "a black man", hall of famer Earvin 'magic' Johnson, on his wife's twitter feed and being at a clippers game was a decision which really restores faith in humanity and society that things can and are done in regards to eradicating racism.

Pity its an example on the other side of the world...

The AFL should have done the same to eddie McGuire who in my opinion expressed equally disgustingly racist comments given the context. I mean eddie made his king kong comment during Indigenous round just one week after a goodes expressed his utter disappointment at copping racism from a crowd member being called a gorilla. Then eddie comes out and calls him the biggest gorilla the world knows [-X

The context is extremely similar with Eddie sitting at the pinnacle of a club, as Donald Sterling is at the Clippers. Both men's comments could, by ignorant wankers, be claimed that they were comments that were not overtly racist and therefore not really racist. Both men have a checkered past in relation to ignorant and insensitive comments. Both apologised profusely saying it was not their ''normal' self and that it was the context of the situation. Both have a history of apparently doing 'charity' for minority groups :puke: . BUT. One gets a life ban and will be ousted whilst the other gets a few hours of "cultural awareness" training and returns to his perch at the top of the AFL tree.

Whether you call it racism, ignorance, or go all soft and say it was a ''mistake' Eddie made, idiots like him should be made an example of and the AFL hasn't done so.

For shame AFL, for SHAME! [-X [-X [-X institutional racism is alive and well folks and you AFL boys best admit it's very present in your favourite organisation! [-X [-( [-X

Ah yes, snooty lil racist Andrew johns. Not much better than Eddie... but definitely better than eddie.

http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/nrl/i ... 5879190210

Differences being he made a joint statement with Tahu and took some ownership of his remarks by standing down from the nsw team. I'm not sure though what other punishment he received from the nrl...anyone know? I think there should have been some formal punishment and if there wasn't the nrl has made the same mistake as the AFL. But in any case atleast Johns showed some ownership in standing down.

Eddie? What'd he do? Left it to his white anglo saxon Collingwood board to make the decision. What a fukkin pussy. The AFL gave him a slap on the wrist with a wet lettuce leaf. [-X

Doesnt he still work in the NRL media like Eddie?

I think most people dont believe Eddie is a racist. He was very supportive of Goodes when he was racially abused by a young Collingwood fan. What Eddie does do is regularly speak before he thinks

IIRC after Tamu walked out the NSW Blues told the media that he had a hamstring injuy to try and cover it all up. And Johns wasn't fired, he quit in disgrace.

Point is neither the nRL, AFL nor Australian society generally have painted themselves with glory on the racism front

A few differences.

Johns made his remark ( & it was racist ,no excuse)at training with only the team to hear.
Fat Eddie said his on Radio for all to hear.
Johns is not as High profile as FE,who RUNS a club & has his own TV & Radio show,

Johns did not have previous form..Like Mr Falfalal.

Yes Johns quit in disgrace.
What did the fat flog Eddie get ..Especially just after the Goodes episode.
All he got was the ******* media...he didn't really mean it ,,,he was tired..
Should have lost his job for 6 months.
TLPG 🤣liar extraordinaire
You should thank me for publishing your IP

and I never published any actual IP. That's it.

I hate defending Eddie, but the felafel remark racist? are you kidding? What 'race' was he denegrating by suggesting GWS' kids would get sick of eating felafel, and how was it denegrating them? Genuinely curious.

It's important to remember the boy who cried wolf here. If you do it all the time the word loses its impact. If you call someone racist for saying "I hate rap music", when a person refuses to hire people of African decent, the word racist no longer has the impact it should.

He's talking about Eddies joke about Adam Goodes could help promote King Kong the week after a Collingwood fan called Goodes an Ape. Was a racist remark but no where near what the owner of the clippers said and a VERY poor track record of racist views - the real question is was Eddies penalty acceptable to Goodes??? After all we are all saying what should and shouldn't happen when it's the person that is affected should have a say.

What Sterling said was way worse than either Johns or Maguire. Way worse, and the penalty was correct. A life ban for Johns or Maguire would have been too extreme.

In my books racism is racism. They should all be banished. Atleast Joey showed responsibility and stood down himself. This is a commendable action which could under my principles, allow a reprieve. Eddie on the other hand should have the same treatment as Sterling.

Again I think it comes down to the ethnic makeup of the codes and the incredibly high numbers of white anglo saxon folk running round and working in the AFL.

NBA = Majority African American - a bloke makes some racist remarks and he's out on his arse as he should be.

NRL = Multicultural difficult to identify majority ethnic group these days - bloke makes a racist remark and he high tails it out of the role he was in when he made it.

AFL = Similar ethnic makeup to Australia during its implementation of the racist white Australia policy - bloke makes a racist remark and some people say it was bad, some say there was nothing wrong with it, most stand by their fellow white man. The bloke plants his arse, is supported by his white board and continues on in his role in control of the most lucrative club in the country.

Not good enough AFL [-X

This is completely at odds with common sense and cultural understanding. There are levels of racism that require different levels of punishment. To try and apply one rule for all is extremist and just as bad as those you are trying to punish.

But I would expect this from you, King Eliagh. You wouldn't happen to be an indigenous Australian yourself would you?
