Anyone who compares Gridiron to RL in Australia is a fucking nutjob.

It always amazes me someone sitting up in Qld telling people who live in Victoria what the sporting scene is like down here - fact is Gridiron has more established clubs than RL and union far exceeds any presence that RL has in Victoria!

& tell me does it amaze you that people living in Victoria SA or WA tell people who live in QLD & NSW what the sporting landscape is like..

The 2014 Gridiron Victoria Senior men’s season is OUR BIGGEST EVER with 14 teams competing and two new clubs!

This year the competition comprises two divisions split into conferences and seeded in this order:

Division One (10 teams)
Conference A
Monash Warriors, Croydon Rangers, Berwick Miners, Melbourne Uni Royals, Bendigo Dragons

Conference B
Geelong Buccaneers, Western Crusaders, Monash Barbarians, Northern Raiders, South Eastern Predators

Division Two (4 teams)
Gippsland Gladiators, Ballarat Falcons, Pakenham Silverbacks, Melbourne Uni Lions

Division one will play each other twice in their own conference and once cross-conference (13 games). Division two will play each other 4 times (12 games total).

Personal knowledge the Croydon Rangers have been around since 1984 when the league formed which makes it more established than all the rugby league sides east of Melbourne.

Remember each gridiron team should have a roster of around 50 players as against 13 on the field for rl.
My research shows more city teams for gridiron in Perth and Adelaide.

As I said there is more established clubs - 30 yrs is a long time to keep going - most clubs in expansion areas will wain after ten because the people who establish and keep them running go and then the club withers!! I wasn't comparing numbers only how established. Sorry if I didn't make that apparent.

So you are comparing How many are on a NFL team..about 45.against WHAT IS ONfield in a RL team..

No wonder you are called a liar & fruitloop..

At any one time there are only 11 player onfield in a Gridiron team .
& I highly doubt any team in AUS would have 45 on the playing roster.

THere might be on 11 players on the team at any one time in gridiron but you still have to have all the teams which amounts to 50.
And yes they play NFL not Arena Football (which uses just the one team).

Losses aren't wiped out at the end of the season. Debts accumulate so unless their profit was 75m they are non viable without financial assistance

You're missing my point. The general assertion has been made that the Storm's debt has been going up and up steadily. In 2009 it has been proven that it did not, and that is a financial success. Viability over the long term is yet to be established due to ownership changes resulting in part from the salary cap breaches. Past experience suggests that if the NRL felt it was not a financially viable club they would shut it down. This - as I have said before about the Rams in particular - would be a mistake, but regardless the NRL has made no move to shut them down.
