Re: What constitutes as AFL or NRL
I would assume it's semi professional in New Zealand. The Papua New Guinea involvement in the NRL may make them semi professional also. If it wasn't for their financial position I would suggest some of the Pacific Islands would be semi professional also. However the money may not be there to achieve that level of financial support. It's why you would get the better players coming to Australia to get access to payments.

Re: What constitutes as AFL or NRL
Since we've established AF is played NZ, I can answer your questions.Dogs wrote:Here is are some simple question for you cos, that might help you go away and stop spamming Cracker about the so called NZ AFL
1) How many players are actually on the field when a true AFL game is played?
2) If a competition is played with less than the number of players in the official AFL AU competition, is it AFL?
3) Is AFL a contact sport?
4) If yes, would you consider touch or tag competitions to be AFL?
5) Do you consider a 9's competition to be AFL?
6) Is AFL played on an Oval field?
7) If it is played on a Oval field, would you consider it to be AFL?
8) Do AFL posts have a crossbar?
9) If no, when a game is played on a field with one, would you consider that to be AFL?
10) Are you sure this is not just Victorian Expats playing touch 9's competition that is loosely aligned to AFL in NZ?
For questions 1 ~10 a game of AFL is a game of AFL as played in the AFL. but that's not you meant was it.
1) The laws of AFL say playing numbers can vary.
2) Because of (1) the playing numbers are the official playing numbers.
3) Yes.
4) I consider other forms of AF as derivatives of AF mostly in the recreational sector and that they can indicate the depth to which AF is played.
AF together with women's football, youth football and recreational paint give a better understanding where the game is at. (but are separate)
5) AFL 9s is AF played with reduced numbers and reduced playing field. It doesn't hold the same weight as 18-a-side though functions exactly the same.
In Australia 9s is played mainly for recreation, overseas it is usually seen in Metro leagues due to the shortage of ovals.
6)Yes
7)Depends what was played on an oval field. There are many forms of AF played on an oval.
8)AF has four posts.
9) Is a soccer still soccer when there uprights visible above the net. Pretty lame.
10)You are quite out of touch with the situation aren't you or in denial.
You are obviously looking at AF overseas from a different perspective.
The existance of AF and the various forms of AF in country usually shows the depth at which AF has penetrated the country.(IMO)
There is a commonality with the development of AF overseas. Most do start from the simplest beginnings and progress at differing rates.
An area that receives a lot of attention on TFC is SE Asia. Those expat-driven clubs have developed into an International league (SEAFL)
with an increasing number of locals playing. There are interesting developments in AF going on all over the world. You can ignore that
like you ignore what's going on in NZ. I don't care if you remain ignorant. It makes no difference. I'm not interested in the developments
in rl either but it does seem to be generally negative from the headline news. that's enough for me.
.
Nice try Cos.

Australia, NZ, PNG (the new hunters team is fulltime) England, Wales, France have pro and semi pro teams. (Russia was pro but have no idea what is happening over there any more)
Most of the pac islands have semi pro leagues.
And a lot of semi pro/amateur set ups in various other places.

Re: What constitutes as AFL or NRL
Just a question what do we consider to be semi pro? Being paid say $100 to play, getting bus fare? I consider semi-pro would have to be on an income above 10k a year (mainly because of travel, health cover, other expences). I doubt there would be many on a lot of coin OS aside from England - in France from what I've heard their lucky to get $500 a match and have only a couple hundred to a match - that doesn't sound semi pro to me. But admit don't know would be interested to know.

So you are saying that only 14 teams were able to scrape together a bunch of expats to represent them to play twiddley winks in England.ParraEelsNRL wrote:Hey cos789, you really are that dopey, just the kickoff times from the last rlwc in my banner tells me that.

So we have some teams that played in the rlwc but they were probably filled with expats.
Is that what you're trying to tell us para.
What a joke.

Avignon 450,000 euros
Carcassonne 1.2 Million euros
Lezignan 800,000 euro
Limoux 425,000 euro
Palua 200,000 euro
St Esteve/XIII Catalan 600,000 euros
Toulouse 1.1 million euro
Villeneuve 330,000 euro
Semi pro enough for you?
Oh, and you'd be surprised at some of the crowds they get over there, some small clubs in villages sometimes manage to get more people to the game than what live in the village.
This is a reserve grade comp btw remember, they'll get crowds anywhere from 200 up to 10k, the comp does every season.
