AFL membership tally in 2009 was 568748. In 2013 it was 756717. Thats an increase of around 188k
but when you exclude the 2 new sides & their 24K odd members
it goes down to 30%
the NRL barely had 100K members in 2009
they had 225K in 2013
an increase of about 125%

The NRL may claim they have had a decent increase but the gap between members tally is actually growing. According you it was around 470k in 2009, 5 years later its nearly 520k more.
As for your claim about 2 new teams, theyre still new members they previously didnt have, so of course they count.
so the claim that the NRL has only really started adverting about them is crap
here is one from 2009
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VG4ENNjslaE
here is the one they have been whoring out all summer
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NFe-KD7UpNI
as well as paying the fairfax stations all summer to run ads during the Big bash league.
the NRL will never get near the AFL in memberships, because there isnt the support there for the shit game of League![]()

In the meantime though from the clubs who made the information available, here is the membership revenue and revenue per member for the AFL in 2013
* Note: the average season ticket for a Melbourne club GA ticket is $180 for an 11 game home season.
the WCE are staggering, all the talk is of the wealth of the big clubs in Melbourne collingwoods, hawthorn & Essendons, due to the number of members, crowds & revenue, but they are poor compared to the eagles
