Why are they lies if they haven't stated they are registered playing numbers? Whats wrong with including Auskick numbers in the figures?AFLcrap1 wrote:You bet there are lies ..

Re: REPORT CARD QLD
For the simple reason that PARTICIPTION NUMBERS are bullshit..
If a school decides to have Ausfumble as a programme ,then most kids will ,do it(IN SCHOOL AUSKICK) then they are participants ,even if not 1 is interested or joins a club..
Its the bullshit illusion that AFL use ,continually Throwing these numbers out in the media ,to give the perception that the game is far far more popular than it really is ..
This leads to fumblefans Like some on here ,believing that it is taking over..
A few points Lawson made.
Introducing primary aged school children to sample Australian football in metropolitan Sydney via school, Auskick or promotional programs appears to be a strength.
Converting young Australian football „samplers‟ into regular club participants with the subsequent engagement of parents, friends and colleagues has not yet been as successful...
In the chase for participant numbers in NSW and ACT, a shortened and often subsidised version of Auskick has been aggressively rolled out in primary schools (In-School Auskick) and after-school centres (Community Auskick). The In-School participants have rarely elected to join an Auskick program. Their school has chosen to include an Auskick program.
Junior club feedback has indicated that the In-School and Community versions have, at times, harmed Club Auskick. Consequently, the longer term retention of entry level participants has been jeopardised in two fundamental ways, discussed shortly.
..
The simple fact is AFL
SPIN spin spin & are very very good at it ...
But it is not the truth ,not even close.
Where are the real numbers.
where are the kids interested enough to join a club..
That is where you see growth..
Not counting some kid whos school let him out of class to kick a ball & has no interest in the sport....
Why are the AFL afraid to release CLUB REGISTERED PLAYING numbers ..
''We've grown at this stage by 27per cent from last year's participation, which was 28,306,'' Connors is quoted as saying. ''There's been substantial growth from a very high base, so we're up around that 36,000-37,000 mark in participation in greater western Sydney.''
Both AFL surveys and Connors define a ''participant'' as a ''no-less-than-six-weeks paying customer'', but according to the AFL NSW/ACT report, playing numbers in junior Australian football across all of Sydney last year was 7694.

If you cant see the spin/bullshit there you are blind.
They added about 30K onto the actual number..
Hence why I laugh/scoff at AFL numbers..

Re: REPORT CARD QLD
Scoff all you like. Expansion markets are extremely hard to crack. The fact more and more kids are getting the chance to experience a bit of ARs is a great thing. Everyone knows they are registered players, and they aren't claimed to be.
I have absolutely no issue or illusions about these numbers

Re: REPORT CARD QLD
The report said growth was decreasing, not numbers. He blamed the increase in Auskick numbers, which are growing alarmingly. The report was also from 2012, not last year.
I noticed youve backed away from your "no registered players" claim

So the numbers are still increasing but at a slower rate.It is too early to predict the cumulative effect on the health of senior football in Sydney, however, with the growth of senior numbers halving (from 8% to 4%), U18s growth dropping from 12% to 4% and significantly more 100 point victories in 2012 in U18 Division 1 and Premier Divisions, there appears good reason to maintain a watching brief.
Care to comment Dave? Are you going to call your own source lies? :_<>
