this is another reason why the NRL's media rights deal doubled in 2013
& why RL will never be headed again in the value of its broadcast rights by any sport in this country

Those figures have nothing to do with any sport. They simply reflect general advertising revenue numbers. You only wish it said that.

So we go back to my original question. What's the point of that?

Here you go Pussy it seems the AFL is predicted to be at least 12 mill profit and an increase in revenue to 440 mil for 2013 - these figures maybe higher as the total budgeting hasn't accounted for the AFL media unit making a profit!

AFL finances weather drugs scandal

The AFL is set to double its profit and hit a record mark in revenue this year, despite a turbulent season marred by several off-field controversies.

AFL chief executive Andrew Demetriou told Financial Review Sunday the league is set to exceed its budgeted forecast of $12 million net surplus and record revenue of about $440 million in 2013.

The league’s surplus for 2012 was $6.7 million from revenue of $425 million.

Demetriou said the league was able to find about $10 million in cost savings in the year to October 31 as well as additional revenue from an increase in crowds and commercial income, including its digital AFL Media unit.

“All the things we measure by – crowds, membership and ratings – it doesn’t [suggest] the off-field saga has affected our key measurements. You would prefer not to deal with the stuff that could damage our brand but you have to deal with that.”

In a wide-ranging interview on the eve of his 10-year anniversary in charge of the AFL and ahead of Saturday’s grand final, Mr Demetriou said he had no regrets about his or the league’s handling of the Essendon drug saga and would not have acted any differently in hindsight.

He says the AFL Media unit, which produces digital content for the 18 club websites and the central AFL site, is growing quickly and will make a profit this year.

But the figures haven't been released yet so this will have to do for the time being!

There it is folks .
A simpleton in action .

Those figures reveal where the highest numbers of eyeballs are watching.
Where companies are willing to pay top $$$$ to get their product advertised to as many people as possible.

& this may surprise you ,but sport is right up the top of the tree (with a few shows like Masterchef/MKR etc )as the most watched shows .

Hence Tv execs paying hundreds of millions of dollars for the rights to show them..

Now be honest ..
You are a RL troll fess up.

Not absent at all, NRLCrap1. The figures show general advertising revenue to be at it's highest in Sydney. The revenue in sport would be dominated by the NRL in that city, so that would be a high amount of revenue by itself. The AFL would naturally dominate in Melbourne but the advertising dollar there is not worth as much.

I could go into more detail over the remainder, but I think I've answered your question about "the point" better than anyone else has.

I'm not disagreeing with you but it's also a very crowded marketplace where even surfing is a major sport - this all siphons off what the pool is and doesn't necessarily translate into the same dollars you get in Melb because it doesn't have the same over crowding.

Moderator, is there a post missing suddenly that I responded to from NRLCrap1?

Swans4ever, the Melbourne market is over crowded because it is well known as a sports mad town. Sydney not so much outside of rugby league. I do agree that surfing attracts a lot of interest, but most of it is on pay television. The general advertising revenue from pay alone is not as much as it is on free to air.

Have stated many times ( any fumbler feel free to point out my lies on here)that I don't know Rd ,never talked to him, never PMd him,
But because I showed up Cwapper TLPG & Adam as rampantly delusional in the RD username thread.
cwapper & TLPG resort to making things up..

Pookus I will be more polite than Raiderdave, and more realistic. Channel Seven may indeed make the most revenue from the free to air commercial networks. But this does not automatically mean that the AFL is leading, simply because it's on that network. There are many other factors involved. Seven have many high rating programs outside of sport, and this is why they are the ratings leaders. Sport may make the lion's share, but as I previously stated the sporting base is quite wide. In fact it would not surprise me that if the advertising revenue was sheared back to sport only, Nine is in front and not Seven.

Something to consider I think.
