I think you will all find that all Victorian cities on the border have strong leanings for rugby league. I am rather surprised at the statistics provided by TLPG, although the Mildura area is remote and so it perhaps doesn't count like it does elsewhere. Places like Echuca, Cobram, Yarrawonga and Wodonga enjoy rugby league as much as they do AFL. That's why the AFL expanded into the Riverina area from an early stage, given that it is closer to Melbourne than it is to Sydney.
Maybe Aubury/Wadonga but those towns have NO RL presence you have to go up to Wagga Wagga, Griffith to find a RL presence. Just got back from Mildura and asked the local Cabbie - didn't know what RL is let alone if they had a team - although in the NSW town Wentworth there is a RL presence but again AFL is the only real sport up along there. Where do you come from Cracker by the way?

I was born in Canberra and I was brought up in Albury. When you say RL presence, I assume you are talking about playing numbers. I was not. I was talking about spectator support on television in the pubs on the border.

Well I can confirm that Echuca likes thugby league. There was one pub that I saw when I visited there a few years ago that was decked out in NSW State of Origin gear. I said straight away to my other half "we're not going there for lunch!"

lol a man with standards :thumbleft:
mate, it doesn't mean that the whole town likes League, last year while i was working up on Curtis island in Gladstone Central QLD, my better half flew in for the week i had off. we went to a restaurant one evening for dinner, it was a few days before the AFL grand final, & the place was decked out with fremantle dockers stuff. after chatting to the staff for a while i had the opportunity to speak to the owner, he was an expat from WA that liked the area & opened up a restaurant. because there is 1 place on town that is decked out with a teams merchandise it doesn't mean the whole place is like that

I never made that claim, Adamj1300. I merely stated that the following of rugby league was prominent, alongside the obviously high following for the AFL. TLPG's example isn't the best for the reasons you gave.
