Don't deny there is racism .
But when very high profile AFL people can get away with it then something is very very wrong..

Do we see RL club bosses make King kong jokes.
Do we see coaches make Immigration DEPT jokes.
Do we see anyone on the footy show call people Monkeys or come out with a blacked out face.

who got away with it exactly?

Rendell wasnt even making a racist comment when he confided in an AFL indigenous official, and lost his job'
Sam Newman was made an example of and went through public mediation
Sheedy has done more for indigenous than just about anyone within the AFL
Eddie is about the only one who may have gotten away with a few stupid comments on a comedy show

Does Andrew Johns still work within the media in Sydney?

Sheedy isn't even close to a racist. His comments related to why the WSWs had an instant following. Its a fact football is popular internationally and a reasonable proportion of overseas immigrants would be more likely to follow a game they know than a local game.

As for the racism comments, I have a few things to say. Racism occurs most when the cultural divide is at its starkest. Our own countries colonisation was full of racists when groups were completely homogenous in their cultures. The AFL quite amusingly and obviously in order to keep up appearance term a player multicultural as long as he or his parents were born O/S. This includes NZ folks! And the UK and other western European countries in which mainstream Australian society has the least cultural divide compared to all other countries. When one looks at team lists of AFL teams one is likely to see an extremely high proportion of white anglo saxon players. I'm afraid this aint multiculturalism folks ;)

RL on the other hand has a clear lead in cultural diversity. We all know that cultural diversity breeds positive anti racist traits such as acceptance, tolerance (a fairly nasty one really), participation and intercultural understanding, all just from being in closer contact and the immersion experience this provides.

I've said it before AFL teams resemble the Australian cultural makeup of the 1950s, a time quite known for its racism. It's recognised history and theory folks. Put 2 and 2 together and make up your own minds whether NRL of the AFL is likely to be more institutionally racist.

Additionally I'd like to point out that there is a significant number of Aboriginal players living in remote regions who speak an Aboriginal language as their first language who love and play marngrook. A significant account. I recall marngrook fields on every remote community ive been to in central Australia and the top end and I've been to plenty, Yirrkala, kintore, Yuendumu, Papunya just to name a few . This is a great thing for the AFL. And I'll tell you now, the kids in these communities get familiar with the sherrin from the youngest of ages. The result is often fairly freakish skills and abilities which would enable to reach high levels of success on the AFL stage, we all saw Liam Jurrah at not nearly his best, the bloke was only young. But unfortunately I believe the AFL has failed in tapping into this market, hence the vigorous debate on the one white parent unwritten policy.

If you had truly been to those communities, King Eliagh, what you just suggested with the AFL tapping into this market is not possible. You would be breaking up families, and you would get serious resistance. This is partly why Jurrah returned to his home. Breaking up communities for the sake of getting talented Aborigines into the AFL is just as racist as the so called one white parent policy, which has never been proven to exist. It has only been speculated as a result of the media circus surrounding Rendell.

I have been to those communities cracker thanks for your hesitation to acknowledge the truth, a common trait of our AFL supporters on this site.

No doubt its a tough task for the aft to tap into these communities. Cultural and family obligations require players to be there fairly often and many don't want to leave their homelands. But their love of the game is also very strong. I didn't suggest the AFL go in and break up families at all, but rather "tap into the market". To do this the AFL need to be the ones making the changes and as far as I know they haven't made a concerted effort at the top level to institute effective policy to bridge the cultural divide, which is what they have to do if theyre fair dinkum. At present it seems its adhoc and up to the club to sort it out. This aint good enough. The AFL have the opportunity to lead the way in positive reform in this field and they should work harder to do it. Otherwise speculation surrounding Rendell's saga can be validated.

No he hasn't, Cracker. He's lying and you aren't. I've been to an Aboriginal community in WA, and I've communicated numerous times with the CAFL in Alice Springs. You hit the nail on the head with Jurrah, and there are many other examples of Aborigines who couldn't handle the big smoke and needed to be home. The closest the game is going to get in bridging the gap has already been done - NT Thunder in the NEAFL, Tiwi Bombers in the NTFL and the merger of the CAFL with the Southern Communities cup. You can't do any more than that, and to try is equal to wrecking a community. I'm sure KE would be hated if they knew he wanted to recruit the best players from places like Ltyente Apurte for instance (here's a test - how do you pronounce that, KE?) and take them to whatever capital city you care to name FULL TIME. It's not going to happen because it's another version of the Stolen Generation in the making, and the communities know it.

Oh and while I think of it - where do you think Maurice Rioli came from originally, KE?

TLPG, your review shows some merit and I agree with you. I would like to know also if King Eliagh can correctly pronounce Ltyente Apurte. I have been to Santa Theresa and they don't like anyone who gets wrong.

Cracker TLPG is our resident liar. He makes shite up to suit his needs and to try to sound like an authority. He seems to have quite a complex actually. He's also highly jealous of anyone who's been to places and done things and learnt things which he sees as his area of expertise.

It's highly likely the bloke hasn't been further than his local oval to ump the under 7s. One day I hope he feels good enough about himself to not have this extreme jealousy.
