Rugby Leagues influence knows no bounds

Post by Raiderdave »

wow
what an extraordinary story

even the residents of the capital of South Sudan ( Juba) can't get enough of their Rugby League State of Origin =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D> =D>
is there any limit to the influence of our great game ?

http://www.foxsports.com.au/league/the- ... 6824634963?

THE streets of the world’s newest capital city are named after Queensland State of Origin greats and nobody seems to know why.

Juba, the capital of South Sudan, has a grid of streets named after various Maroons greats, including Arthur Beetson, Mal Meninga, Wally Lewis, Allan Langer, Paul Vautin, Darren Lockyer and Gene Miles.
The oddity was discovered by David McQuinn, from Adelaide, who told The Australian: “I’ve avoided Facebook, Twitter and SMS but have become addicted to Google Earth.

“As my travel budget is limited, health not what it used to be and many places would be rather risky to visit, I zoom in to locations currently in the news ... South Sudan and Juba are in the news and look like featuring more regularly now with armed mobs on the loose. So I thought I should familiarise myself with the area.

“I looked for the UN base and airport where fighting was reported and up popped the league player streets.’’

Maroons legend and former Broncos captain Miles has no explanation for the street names.

“Maybe it’s just an Australian ex-pat who is a town planner there,” said Miles, the chief executive of Queensland Former Origin Greats organisation.

“I’m not sure I want to rush over there and drive down the streets, though”.

NEEDED TO BE SAID.

MARK COLVIN: An alleged racism scandal has cost the recruiting manager of the Adelaide Football Club his job.

Matt Rendell resigned this evening after it emerged that he was the unnamed AFL official who reportedly said his club wouldn't draft an Indigenous player unless one of his parents was white.

http://www.abc.net.au/pm/content/2012/s3455391.htm

A RECRUITER for an AFL club has privately admitted to the league that his club would be unlikely to draft an indigenous player unless at least one parent were white.

The recruiter is one of several recently approached by the AFL in response to rumours of unease at some clubs about recruiting indigenous players, and a drop in their numbers on club lists.

Some clubs have told the AFL they are more reluctant than before about recruiting Aboriginal players because they are thought to provide a difficult management issue

He never actually said it was a rule

Here's what Rendell said:"I said as a throwaway line, as a ridiculous line, you might find we only recruit players with one white parent if it's not addressed now," Rendell told the Nine Network's Footy Classified.

"... I've never had a policy like that in my life. I wouldn't have a policy like that, it's ridiculous, silly. Everyone's the same.

"The comment that I made originally was stupidly trying to emphasise the problem that we've got at the moment and we need to do something about it quick and the AFL need to get involved in it."

But carry on with your lies...... :)))

Wow and here I was thinking it was only one racist who made this quote. The last paragraph tells us several clubs have been talking to the AFL about their reluctance to employ aboriginal players. Guess I'm not shocked....

I've coached and played marngrook in central australia. The aboriginal kids throughout the region really love the sport and it shows in their skills. It's sad to see clubs reluctant to recruit based on cultural difference. They really could try harder. The sport could easily have 30 or 40% Aboriginal players IMO. Easily. But the evidence suggests clubs don't wanna go there. Not saying it's all easy but to just bail out? Shameful.

Where does it say they are reluctant to recruit based on their race?

get your head outa your arse.
I didn't write the article .
I didn't tell it like it is & then get sacked (like anyone who tells the truth & dares tarnish the "IMAGE" of Fumbleball.

This poor bloke told the truth & copped it ..
But the funny thing is he was right on the Money
as when the DWAFT of the next crop of Stick insects was on ..
This is what happened.

INDIGENOUS participation has been a jewel in the AFL cultural crown but one that is suddenly under serious threat.

And that is sad. Extremely sad, given football offers people of many different backgrounds the chance to to make something of lives that may otherwise amount to little.

It also robs our game of one of its great sights, that of an indigenous player (think Lewis Jetta) running and bouncing with uninhibited freedom, or kicking goals that don't seem possible for the average Joe.

Over the past decade, a healthy 9 per cent of the 840 listed players in 2012 were indigenous. But only three indigenous footballers were selected in last week's national draft, with a super-talented but troubled youngster named Dayle Garlett overlooked.

On ability, Garlett would have been a top 10 certainty, yet concerns over his ability to conform to the rigours of the AFL scared clubs away
