Go Blues. :P Lets see game 3 in Melbourne as a meaningless event with NSW already having won the series. Who you going for Grim?

You boys are terrified by League aren't you??

QLD are carving them at the moment, but the Melbourne game is sold out anyway...

You won't be able to use the excuse anymore of every Melbourne Origin getting a smaller crowd then the one before...

Beaussie, as much as I despise NRL and all the rapes that go with the game I will go for NSW. My reason....I hate Queenslanders and that dead maggot Joh!

History demonstrates Origin in Melbourne will be a fizzer once the novelty wears off. Would you like me to provide you with the crowd numbers for Origin games in Melbourne in the past? Not good and you know it Willis.

You are a goose...

What do you mean the "novelty wearing off"??....

The crowd in 1997 was affected by the Super League war which basically made sure that the SOO would be a disaster with second rate players ....

Take that game out and provide me with the link... Don't forget to add the 55,000 that will be there next month...

State of Origin crowds in Melbourne:

1990 - 25,800 (Olympic Park)
1994 - 87,161 (MCG)
1995 - 52994 (MCG)
1997 - 25,105 (MCG)

http://www.stats.rleague.com/rl/soo/soo_idx.html

Notice the pattern that developed after 1994? How do you explain the drop of in crowds after the crowd of 1994?

2006 - 55,000 ( sell out)

I have explained it already..1995 and 1997 were effected by the Super League war fallout...

What's your thoughts on the fact that the game is sold out this year, whilst the Union England v Wallabies could only get 41,000??

My understanding is that Super League didn't eventuate until 1997.

How do you explain the massive drop in crowd numbers between 1994 - 1995?

Oh and Willis if SoO was such a huge success in Melbourne, why is it that from 1997 to 2006 there hasn't been any SoO games held in Melbourne?

The War started on 1 Apr 1995 when Super League announced it had signed many players and several clubs to their super League competition that was due to start in 1996...

The ARL banned all players that had signed with Super League from playing the ARL State of Origin series in 1995 - this meant that all Brisbane and Canberra players and others ( the likes of Stuart, Clyde, Daley, Lazarus, Langer, Ettinghausen, Webke, Renouf, Walters brothers, etc..) missed the series...

I think this might have had some impact? Don't you?

I dont know.. but isn't it good to see it back so strong a decade later??

How bout you answer my question... How many people do you think would do to see an AFL match in Sydney between Vict v SA??

5,000 tops..

The AFL is not desperate to have a State of Origin between SA and Vic in Sydney.....why waste talent on a NRL state. The NRL are desperate to have it in Melb as they know the will not fill the stadiums in NSW
