Even just the incorrect assertion from this AFL recruiter resulted in his loss of job. It wasn't a rule, it was a concern expressed about the growing expectations placed on recruits, and how they needed to be addressed to ensure indigenous players had the best chance of success when moving away from home.
Even McLeod, one of the AFLs proudest indigenous players, expressed absolute support for his club, which employed Rendell, and their stance on indigenous players.
