I love it how you wrote "Top five NATIONAL events based on relevance and interest across the WHOLE of Australia not just two states." There are so many flaws in just that sentence! where do i begin... relevance, QLD is as relevant as WA, TAS and SA combined, lol western sydney is more relevent than SA and TAS combined. Now back to your list, with mediocre relevance and interest in QLD and NSW(which it has) there is no way any AFL would make the top 5 in ur so called list. The AFL Grandfinal would perhaps be lucky to scrap into position 5 purely on the fact that is does get average ratings in NSW and QLD most of the time but i sure wouldnt call it something of great significance or relevance here, its more of a casual glance here and there to see whats going on.
The AFL grandfinal definatly is not something that catches the publics attention and excitment in nsw and qld, but im happy to slot it into 5th or 6th place, lol ANZAC day collongwood vs Essendon was either meant to be humourous on ur part or its evidence of your naivety. the ANZAC game may be big where you are with everyone talking about it but seriously its an absolute nothing game here. to say it has any relevance or significance would be like me trying to say GWS is a well liked and supported club here in sydney without laughing.

Re: SWines & his top 5 list
You just showed that you didn't understand the concept with that diatribe! The relevance and interest isn't about local. It's about the WHOLE OF THE COUNTRY!! All fricking states, you goose, equallly important and expressed as an insinuated percentage!! On that basis of course the Melbourne Cup is number 1! It's the race that stops a nation you know! Stops A NATION! Not just a part of it. THE LOT!
The AFL gets into the top five because of the interest and relevance it holds in ALL STATES AND TERRITORIES COMBINED!! TLPG has already shown the high presence of the game in NSW and Queensland compared to the joke of a presence outside of those states for the NRL! Combine those in an insinuated percentage and AFL would win! Sure, there may be more interest in NSW and QLD in rugby league, but there is nowhere near that interest in the other states! ANd yet there IS interest in AFL in NRL heartland! Getting this yet?
Now to be honest I think the Test series and the Australian Open should be the other way around - but both garner big interest in all the states. And these three are the only ones. So next you go to the local sport and as I said, AFL wins that battle. Whether you like it or not. Even the ANZAC Day game, which gets big coverage and always has done. It feeds on the ANZAC spirit and does so successfully. The Storm and the Warriors have tried to replicate that spirit, but they can't. Are you suggesting that the ANZAC spirit is limited to AFL heartland?? Are you nuts if so??
Face facts. Even though this list is Swans opinion, it makes a lot of sense. And you NRL fans can't stand the FACT that outside of NSW and Queensland you lot struggle BADLY! AFL does much better outside of it's heartland and will continue to do so until the NRL gets off it's butt and starts developing their game instead of letting it roll along like an out of control bus!

Re: SWines & his top 5 list
Im sorry but until the AFL can climb up the perch(it currently sits 3rd&4th out of the big four codes in NSW and QLD) it will have not real national significance! NSW and QLDs populations are more than half of the nations! i know all about how AFL is big in southern nsw, but have you looked on a map and viewed those areas? they are the least populated areas in the state! lol the largest town is albury lol, there are heaps of albury sized towns in the central and northern areas of nsw, and these areas AFL is 4th by a long shot! Sydney and brisbane are of such high significance natonally that western sydney alone is more significant than the whole of western australia and regional nsw is more significant than South australia! lol! Sydney on a whole is greater in significane than all AFL dominated states bar VIC combined! Now you try and tell me how AFLs GF and specially its ANZAC clash is a 'top 5' in significance when just under 60% of the country doesnt think too much of it?NRLCrap1 wrote:You just showed that you didn't understand the concept with that diatribe! Check out the image below...

Its tv viewer figures for round 5 2013, have a quick look at your precious ANZAC day game with its 'big coverage', whats the figures for Sydney and Brisbane lol?
45 thousand or so viewers in a city of over 4.7 million shows how little sydney cares for the game, im sorry but the anzac clash may be big in quite afew states, but unfortunately these states are the least populated and significant ones. without Sydney/NSW and brisbane/QLD that game is NOT of national significance.
And look at the next image.

LoL it shows that the ANZAC day Clash tv figures was beaten by an NRL Friday night game which was the Souths vs Roosters game on september 6. so does that mean that the souths vs roosters game should be in the list instead of the anzac game? haha.

yeh thats why a MASSIVE 46 thousand tuned in to watch it in sydney, it didnt even win the timeslot, lol i bet it would be lucky to be in the top 2(lol who am i kidding top 3!) in that timeslot for against the other FTV channels haha. thats about what the swans get and what GWS dream of getting in sydney. look i showed you some facts prooving how insignificant that game is up here but theres no point trying to argue with you, your stuck in your 'imagination land'NRLCrap1 wrote:FUCKING BULLSHIT!! ...BUT YES THE ANZAC DAY MATCH IS SO SO SIGNIFICANT TO ALL OF AUSTRALIA
here ill fix it up,
YES THE ANZAC TEST IS SIGNIFICANT TO ALOT OF AUSTRALIANS (MAINLY THOSE IN THE SMALLER INSIGNIFICANT STATES), BUT IT IS OF LITTLE TO NO SIGNIFICANCE TO OVER HALF OF AUSTRALIA WHO HAPPEN TO LIVE IN JUST TWO STATES :>::

Re: SWines & his top 5 list
Point 1 - TV ratings do NOT indicate relevance! And they only play a partial role in interest because only the networks care about ratings! You want relevance? Look at the number of people PLAYING the game!!
Point 2 - The ANZAC Day test means virtually NOTHING outside of NSW and Queensland. The ANZAC Day AFL game at the G may mean less in NSW and Queensland than the ANZAC Test, but it means a lot more to NSW and Queensland than the ANZAC Test means to Vic, SA, WA and Tassie!!
Getting it yet? Or are you really as stupid as the others?

Re: SWines & his top 5 list
i get how much you love your ANZAC game lol, you have basically correlated what my posts said but without realising me thinks....
Mate our little chat in this thread started because you were trying to tell me that the ANZAC DAY test was significant to the whole of australia, i replied trying to tell you thats not the case in NSW and QLD. there may be 200 thousand people in NSW and QLD where the anzac AFL game means alot to them, but you need to look at it in perspective of how many people live in these states and realise that when there is more than 12 million people in the two states 200,000 or so people finding this game game significant is not really that high, its less than 2%.
lets just say 400,000(thats very high) than still thats alittle more than 3%, thats equivalent to 50,000 people watching NRL anzac test in WA and about 35,000 thousand in SA. NOT THAT MUCH REALLY. i bet there would be 50,000 and 35,000 people in WA and SA that rather the ANZAC test match to the AFL game.

Re: SWines & his top 5 list

You are nuts!! Now you ADMIT that the ANZAC Day test isn't significant to NSW and Queensland!! Admit to your typo - that's the AFL ANZAC Day game (not test!) you're talking about! You bet Collingwood and Essendon on April 25 is significant in NSW and QLD!! 200K IS big, when you consider than nowhere near that amount is interested in the ANZAC Day test between the Kangaroos and the Kiwis in Vic, SA, WA and Tassie! 50K in WA? More like 5K! They go to Collingwood v Essendon in a heartbeat because it means more to them!
Australia doesn't consist of two states. It consists of six. Start giving the four you are ignoring their due!

Re: SWines & his top 5 list
ANZAC tests usually outrates the ANZAC stolen day game between some suburb and another. And that was when the game was only shown into 2 states live, I can imagine the belting it gives the other lot these days with nation wide figures at its disposal, wouldn't be something any of you vfl fans would really want to talk about I'd had thought.

I think you are forgetting fox ratings for Sydney but yes I see your point. Also gild coast AFL woukd be 3rd at worst, likely second, and that's our 5th biggest city I think.
