The incentive to play in your home state is very strong and has seen some high profile recruits leave the lions and swans in the past. Where as you rarely see players leave their home state and chose to move interstate by choice. For this reason alone I think the COLA is required, maybe not has big as it is currently though.

Why do many nrl fans try and find fault ... And are so passionate about it when it comes to AFL. I get the whole chip on the shoulder and trying to put AFL back in its place, insecurity breeds that (we have seen it in reverse with the rlwc where AFL supporters have fervently tried to belittle it likely due to insecurities as to the AFL spoor international presence) but every time the AFL shine they try to find fault. For years we heard nrl had top 77 programmes on pay tv then when AFL smash the ratings on pay tv we get constant quotes of ratings on fta only ??? And told pay is irrelevant. Then we are told pay tv ratings are fudged by double counting ... Yet Dave still can't tell us how this works ? Prior to that, AFL dominates ratings on fta and there is a call for regionals to be counted .. But not AFL regionals ?? Then AFL get bigger tv deal and we get nrl saying ... Add New Zealand ... Yet the debate on tv money is about which sport is more popular in Australia ... Let's not forget adding nz ratings in as well .. As this proves which sport has the greatest following? Then the latest is that when the swans get bigger average crowds, bigger sponsorship, bigger membership in Sydney... Rl heartland... We are now resorting to the cheats mantra to belittle them??? I think many in AFL circles question the cola too ... But not to question popularity etc but some see it as an unfair advantage. Others see it as necessary as recruiting would be more difficult when you are on effect earning less on a dollar got filler basis due to cost of living. That's a genuine debate or fight if you like.

People may question the administration of the AFL in allowing the cola however if I were a rl person I would be looking at the AFL and asking what they are doing so right as it seems to be working so well ... As I know some rl people here do and most rl people outside this forum do as well.
