Re: USA RU vs USA RL
Typical RL fans - hypocrites, weren't too complimentary or supportive of these politicians when they were going to bring in the pre-commitment tax on pokie machines! Selective memories!
The complaint
The complaint concerns the program The Sunday Roast program broadcast on 10 July 2011 by NBN Ltd, the licensee of NBN.
The complainant alleges that the commentators on the programs promoted ‘station politics’ in their discussions on subjects such as carbon pricing and poker machine policy in a way that reminded him of ‘cash for comment’ cases.
The complaint has been examined in relation to paragraph 7(1)(j) of Schedule 2 to the Broadcasting Services Act 1992.
The program
The program Sunday Roast was a live panel show dealing with issues in the National Rugby League (NRL), broadcast on NBN and other Nine Network stations from 2005 to 2011. The program on 10 July 2011 was hosted by Andrew Voss and there were two panellists: Phil Gould (also known as Gus) and Terry Kennedy.
The program was usually an hour long, but on 10 July 2011 it was shortened by half an hour due to the live broadcast of a Prime Ministerial announcement about the Government’s carbon pricing scheme, which immediately preceded it. The program began with some jocular remarks about the announcement, describing it, for example, as ‘a show that makes less sense than The Sunday Roast’.
Then, following a discussion of a recent State of Origin march, the following discussion was broadcast, beginning some 10 minutes into the program and continuing for 2 minutes 45 seconds.
ANDREW VOSS
Away from State of Origin. Just back on politics for a moment, and we do have to discuss it. Gus has written a very good article today in The Sun Herald; this is about the mandatory pre-commitment on poker machines and you having to pledge before you start or get a card or whatever. The impact this is going to have on rugby league and some of the – you’ve got to say – rubbish that has been said. I mean, Jenny Macklin this week – the quote that she related between National Rugby League and poker machines, Gus! It was dead set bollocks!
PHIL GOULD
It’s absurd. I mean, we’ve just sat through half an hour of proof that our country lacks leadership and our country’s being run by independents who weren’t given the mandate to do it.
And this poker machine legislation that they’re going to bring in is going to have such an impact on the hospitality industry. It’s going to affect so many walks of life and so many communities, not just rugby league. Rugby league will survive; your club mightn’t survive; your favourite club mightn’t survive; rugby league will survive. But some of the rubbish that’s been trotted out by these politicians about why they need to address this, and the legislation they’re coming up with is not even going to fix the problem they’re supposedly targeting, which is problem gambling. They’re not going to solve problem gambling with mandatory pre-commitment on poker machines. Let alone the cost to the club industry of having to replace their poker machines, update their poker machines, to take this technology. The whole thing is a farce.
And from the Prime Minister’s point of view, you know full well she is bowing to this pressure simply because she wants to stay in power. Not because it’s a good policy for the Australian people. It’s ridiculous. Every form of this legislation is ridiculous and people need to know exactly what’s going to happen because this country needs to go back to the polls. We need leadership and stop this nonsense that we have.
ANDREW VOSS
This mightn’t paint the three of us favourably, but they don’t understand the mentality of gamblers –
PHIL GOULD
No.
ANDREW VOSS
– if they think that is going to work.
PHIL GOULD
No! No!
ANDREW VOSS
I mean, when you’re down, you chase, and if you can’t do it there, you’ll go somewhere else to chase the dollar you’ve just lost. I’m not making light of it but that’s a fact. And it’s a fact.
TERRY KENNEDY
You always bet within your means if you possibly can, but your great victories are always when you’ve come from nothing and built it back, got square and then got in front and you’re just left thinking: ‘How good was that!’
PHIL GOULD
Terry, the whole legislation and the whole mentality of what they are saying is that every person who gambles is a problem gambler. Which is totally ludicrous. Anyone who takes money out of an ATM on licensed premises is going to be a problem gambler. The whole thing is a farce. It’s going to cost thousands of jobs, it’s going to cost all those community programs, charity work, all the junior sports that are funded through clubs and hospitality industry, which is a great industry in our community; it’s the very fabric of our society in some towns and some regions. The whole thing is a farce and people have got to stand up and be counted on this issue.
ANDREW VOSS
I reckon the Duke of Penrith should put himself – You’re the new Laurie Oakes, or you have to become the sitting member, or you have to become an independent somewhere.
PHIL GOULD
It drives me crazy –
ANDREW VOSS
Oh, it does!
PHIL GOULD
– that ridiculous legislation like this can even see the light of day. I mean, we just sat through rubbish on global warming. My God! Please! [Laughter from Andrew Voss].Carbon tax!
ANDREW VOSS
What a good first segment of The Sunday Roast, a little bit different.
Assessment
The investigation is based on:
• submissions from the complainant;
You ONLY HAVE TO LOOK AT THEIR STATISTICS ON RL OUTSIDE OF NSW/QLD
Out of ALL the state leagues I looked at NONE of them had the same figure as the NRL stated was the participation figures - WA was a prime example in the Pilbera competition NONE of the clubs could be found on sporting pulse - so again you RL fans are nothing but hypocrites!

You get to follow or be involved in a sport where you can take pride in supporting your National team when they play international matches (For derpball fans ,look up INTERNATIONAL before replying)Swans4ever wrote:AND WHAT TGE FUCK IS A RL EXPERIENCE? What a load of shit!
& there is nothing like watching your national team take on the traditional old foes NZ or ENGLAND.
Something a derpball fan cannot experience.
So a derpball experience is confined to suburb V suburb..yay how quaint.
So overall a RL experience is Much Much more rewarding than fumbling a Sharon

Re: USA RU vs USA RL
So watching the national side of two states is now regarded as an RL experience that contributes to participation - Sorry AFLcrap but thats an RD comment! Ask anyone outside NSW/QLD and if you said the Kangaroos they would reply "Is North playing an exhibition match again at Lords?" A National team means just that a team drawn from ALL of Australia not two states! The is a national RU team because players get picked from states outside NSW/NRL, there is a national Cricket, soccer, hockey sides for the same reason - AF has an all Australian team recognising the best in Australia (even if they don't play anyone the principle is the same!) RL means two states not Australia!AFLcrap1 wrote:You get to follow or be involved in a sport where you can take pride in supporting your National team when they play international matches (For derpball fans ,look up INTERNATIONAL before replying)Swans4ever wrote:AND WHAT TGE FUCK IS A RL EXPERIENCE?
