Once other countries catch up, then it'll happen - but not before. Overseas development is still in it's early stages and it's progressing.
Personally I'd rather play for Hawthorn than the RL Kangaroos. More satisfaction involved.
Oh, and if Nicole Kidman played netball - she'd have to play for the US. That's where she was born. End of.
And open waters? I'm sure there's a rule regarding place of birth for that, but I'm no legal eagle.

i thought you had to give in your preference for who to play well in advance, i dont think you can 'not get picked' and the next day rock up and play for america.
in any case half the team was born in america, most of the others through being born in american samoa

Proves nothing. Many who are born in one country and move to another pick up the second's accent. Doesn't change where you're born. Are you telling me you can change your birth certificate? Re: Selection criteria for RLWC is pure and simple a joke!
I have looked it up and the rule only speaks about how long after playing for one country before you can play for another - says nothing about should you be on the verge of selection for one country as being a disqualifying act for selection to other countries. But were getting away from the point which is how can someone change there allegancies so often and still be honoured by Australia RL has created a situation where a person playing for a country means very little!pHyR3 wrote:i thought you had to give in your preference for who to play well in advance, i dont think you can 'not get picked' and the next day rock up and play for america.

Seems a common theme in this RLWC - if you don't get picked for Australia - don't worry plenty of other countries you can play for!
In-form Uate not bitter about rep snub
Liam FitzGibbon Friday, November 01, 2013 7:26:09 AM
Akuila Uate has no hard feelings over his representative snubbing for Australia and NSW but the Fijian flyer would still like to prove a point at the Rugby League World Cup.
The Newcastle NRL winger has already made a spectacular start to the tournament, scoring a hat-trick in Fiji's opening win over Ireland on Monday.
He hopes to keep that form going in St Helens on Saturday when he faces Australia, the nation he has represented five times.
The 26-year-old has also played five State of Origin games for NSW but was overlooked for both the Blues and Kangaroos in 2013.
While his sole focus is with the Bati, Uate hopes a big World Cup could serve as a reminder of his abilities at representative level.
Asked if he hoped to play for Australia again, Uate told AAP: "We'll see what happens as the years go by but I definitely want to play for NSW again, that's for sure.
"I'm not angry ... I'm not cussing anyone. I'm here to play footy and play for Fiji.
"Even though I didn't get in for Australia and the Origin this year, that's in the past now.
"I just want to go forward and keep playing good footy.
"I'm in the Fiji team now, we're here for a reason and I'm looking forward to this game on Saturday."
Aside from the obvious challenge of facing Tim Sheens' tournament favourites, Fiji must also overcome a short turnaround with two days less than the Kangaroos to recover.
The Bati have never come within 50 points of Australia but Uate is confident a side brimming with NRL talent can put in a much-improved performance.
"Our aim is just to compete with them and never give up," Uate said.
"It doesn't really matter what the score is. We've just got to give it our best and the boys are looking forward to the challenge."

what a wonderful sport brimming with opportunities to play for your country of origin or if you're good enough , your country of residence .
these young men made an informed decision
afterall
they could have made a massive life mistake & chosen the fumbles & bumbles to play as kids
if they'd gone down that path
they wouldn't be able to play for anyone at state or international level in a proper world cup

VFL is indeed
the worlds tiniest sport

Doesn't prove a thing, Dave, except that Fiji should be claiming all it's players born there as theirs and not let Australia or New Zealand pick them. Country of residence shouldn't matter a quark!
