You RL guys are so insecure - as soon as someone criticises your WC - it's whinge whinge whinge - I have said it repeatedly - I have a problem with the criteria for selection - I am not advocating that don't have an inter national comp only it should be 5 or 6 rather than padding out teams to give the impression that it's something it's not. The AFL IC - doesn't pretend that the countries who compete are countries where AFL has a big following. They make the competition to suit who the entrants are - that's why Australia and Australians are banned in the interest of competition and to encourage growth. What happens if some kid sees USA win a RL WC match against NZ or GB only to find out that few in the side are actually Americans? What will they think if there is little likelihood they could play in that team in years to come because some NRL wannabe who couldn't make the Kangaroos would take their place? I for one would tell my kid best not bother play something else. But with the IC all those kids see others being rookie listed at AFL clubs because they got to the IC and got noticed, it means there's a pathway. But look keep it the way it is - I really don't care that much AFL will keep expanding and one day there will be international sides who can take us one!

Again I provide the example of Lebanon where, in a country of 4 million, RL has expanded due to their RLWC entrance in 2000 made up primarily of aussie-lebanese people. I can link the article agian, but i've linked it several times already.

USA RL is getting more attention because they are in the RLWC, it's like that candian guy who represnted Australia in the winter olympics, provided a bit of attention for the sport that we generally don't care about too much.

However, I do agree that a few more yanks should have made the team but that is due to the schism in RL comps there into the AMNRL and USARL, which leads to conflict and people not making the team cause they play for the wrong comp. Italy is a bit better, there are a couple of true italians who have made the team so there is a chance for any italian who wants to represent his country to do so and it builds interest in the game.

You're desperately trying to cling to little successes that should have happened a generation ago but didn't. You're catching up. All the teams should be 100 percent made up of players who were born in the country they represent. If you held to that you'd see just how far you lot still have to go, even in New Zealand and England! Whilst I won't say that Australia dominates RL as much as it does AFL, it dominates it enough to be a major problem for RL to have their WC taken seriously. Certainly compared to the be all and end all of them - the FIFA one in Brazil.

I'll make this prediction. In a generation from now the interest in the AFL International Cup will generate crowds that when compared to the same number of club games in the NRL, the AFLIC would win.

You're catching up??

But then how come you crow about the AFL world cup as being such a succes in only 10 years (when in fact no one cares about it at all even in Melbourne). You're only catching up haha but you're several decades late to the international game mate

Who cares about eligibility to such an extent, you just want to make sure that you can walk about with AFL smugness. I know that it's helping grow sports in Europe and America through exposure. The average fan isn't researching into what star sign each player has and the exact time and location they first rode a bike. They go, cool France in the RLWC. might go to that (btw all french players are french im pretty sure). Or in italy, "cool let's watch the azzurria on tv"

Who says no one cares about it in Melb? The IC has been played during work days so it's hard to get to and unless your in Carlton - it's not very widely advertised. If the RL fans are comfortable with a fake comp good for them - but don't tell us to get excited about it. And keep believing its growing the game - the IC has been around 10 yrs - international AF about 1
since the late 90's - the IRL since the 50's, so once again you can tell yourself anything!

who says no one cares about it? maybe the 500 people who rocked up to watch it, and i doubt it was televised either. and this was BEFORE a regular season game. Our U20's games get more than that, and no they aren't advertised either.

people playing for their heritage, and numerous others playing for their country doesn't make it fake.

haha, so in 10 years you've gotten 500 people IN AUSTRALIA. Maybe in 100 you can get 500 people in ANOTHER COUNTRY for your world cup!!?!? :O

and the NRL is doing better, you bumsniffers try and class it as an international game its laughable at best
for a game that has has been around for 100plus years that originated out of England and it a sub product of union, League has had stuff all growth :(/
you
nearly half of the players playing in the WC are Australian based & no other country will even come close !, the other teams competing, that Australia will play in the final all have strong union teams. those teams will be represented with Australian, players who grand parents migrated to Australia & disgruntled union players

so Union strong international,
League fuck all growth :(/

Yeah let's see how rugby league draws in Egypt hey?
why? there's no support there.

I'm saying that having an international sport means you can draw consistent crowds in MORE than one country. i.e. france, wales, UK, NZ etc.

and nrl can, AFL cant NRL international > AFL international.

I never said it is the premier sporting event of the world, it's clearly not. But it's a nice place for people to represent their country or heritage in a professional competition that means something and that some people, primarily in NZ, Aus and UK, actually care about.

Club rugby league on a world wide scale is behind club AFL in a single country. That's not something you should be bragging about. That's something you should be ashamed of.
