Smorgon also questioned whether western Sydney or the Gold Coast, regions the AFL has earmarked for building new markets for the sport, could sustain clubs.

"Where's the qualified research and data that would suggest clubs could successfully be sustained in the western part of Sydney or on the Gold Coast?" Smorgon asked.

Where's the data to suggest the Bulldogs can survive in the western suburbs of Melbourne? Certainly not sponsorship, membership or crowd numbers for the Dogs.
