The storm though do have a following problem is the grass roots . There is one league covering Melbourne that includes Geelong. Baseball is bigger than that. Whereas Aussie rules has 5 leagues in Sydney alone.

Victoria really has only one league - Whereas AF in NSW has many leagues, Riverina, Northern Rivers, Diamond, Canberra etc etc - I think thats the biggest difference AF in NSW as very far ahead of RL in participation and organisation - RL would be a good 30+ behind the AFL in that regard. There doesn't seem too much money being spent on RL in non traditional states either.Phelpsy wrote:The storm though do have a following problem is the grass roots . What explains the NRL dominance in crowds compared to the rebels?Phelpsy wrote:I would say ru has a larger following overall but still very niche market. Mainly the private schools for kids that can't get a go at AFL

I think the storm as a team has good exposure hence the crowds but grass roots and general interest in a code union would have league covered I think

I think it has been their success and an extra 15 or so years, the RU side isn't travelling too well and the season doesn't correspond as much with the AFL season - eg I think they start in Feb and finish in July - so it gets advertised and their is a large rugby association, county association and private school comp not as big as obviously AF and Soccer but about 3rd by a long way. There also doesn't seem to be the same friction between union and other codes - yet to answer your question I think mainly success.Jackyboy wrote:What explains the NRL dominance in crowds compared to the rebels?Phelpsy wrote:I would say ru has a larger following overall but still very niche market.
