For those of you who have missed the updated post in the Gambling and Tipsters forum, the following explains the issues many of you have been wondering about this week with the scores in the AFL and NRL tipping competitions.
Due to an unfortunate database issue with the tipping competitions scores, all data has now been restored to what it was as of Saturday 18/08/07 - prior to the database problem presenting. As many of you will know all scores in the tipping competition changed to 0.

This issue has now been corrected and all scores are now back to what they were as of Saturday 18/08/07 - Round 20 in the AFL and Round 23 in the NRL.

As a result of the database only being restored tonight at approximately 8:30pm, tipping has been suspended for this weekends Round 21 in the AFL and Round 24 in the NRL. This was an unfortunate but I hope you will all agree a necessary measure to avoid the inevitable problem of some members being able to enter their tips, whilst others missed out due to the timing of the database restored. It seems only fair that tipping scores remain the same as at the completition of Round 20 in the AFL and Round 23 in the NRL, prior to the database problem.

Rest assured, tipping will resume for next weekends final rounds in the AFL and NRL (ie: Round 22 in the AFL and Round 25 in the NRL) continuing through the finals series of each respective competition.

Please accept my sincerest apologies for the inconveinience experienced this week with the tipping competitions.

if the database was restored tonite at 8:30 nobody should have missed out on their tipping??? i dont think its fair because its giving the people that were or are infront a clear advantage on the rest of us!! this really is very unprofessional...

that means we've missed out on 2 weeks of tipping which is potentially 2 weeks of catching up or even getting in front... :?

Huh? 2 weeks? Only one week (ie: tipping this week has been suspended). Tips and results/scores for last weekends round are now in place. As I assume members had placed their tips before Saturday 18/08/07, all those results have now been added and as such tipping positions have changed. No one will get points for this week but tipping resumes for the next round and continues right through the finals.

kaskill, you had previously asked me about the following:

3 Ey Wrekn 101 59 63.1% 113
4 kaskill 102 58 63.8% 113

This is a result of Ey Wrekn earning a bonus point for a correct tip in the match of the round and hence a bonus point being awarded.

You do indeed have a better tipping record in the sense that you have tipped 102 wins and 58 losses whilst Ey Wrekn has tipped 101 wins and 59 losses. Difference is as mentioned above, Ey Wrekn has correctly tipped a win in a bonus game and as a result has been awarded an additional bonus point. Hope that makes sense.

No one has missed out on their tips for last weekend. The database issue was identified as arising on Sunday 19/08/07. To avoid the same issue arising again, the database was restored to what was in place on Saturday 18/08/07. Tips were alredy entered by members for last weekend prior to the database issure arising and as such have now been updated.

It was of coure my hope that the database would have been restored earlier, on Thursday at the latest, which would have provided members with a chance to enter their tips for this weekend. Due to technical problems experienced by the hosts of this site in getting the database restored, that was unfortunately not possible and the restoration could only proceed at 8:30pm Friday night.

As no one is tipping for this weekends round, no member has been provided an unfair advantage. We could of course open tipping for the remaining games this weekend (ie: all games with the exception of Friday nights games in the AFL and NRL), but I feel, and I hope you would agree that would provide an unfair advantage to those members who log on tonight/today or over the weekend. Others tippers who for whatever reason don't get the chance to log on over the weekend would rightly feel an unfair advantage has been provided to those who did log on.

In any case, check out the current positions on the tipper ladder board. You are currently equal 2nd - just one point of top spot after the results of last weekends round was added. Count yourself lucky when you see my current ranking on the tippers leaderboard. Embarrassing I know.
