Arrogance in Football
The arrogance of soccer trying to monopolize the word "football" has done soccer great harm.
RU claim their game is "played in heaven". So well it may be because it doesn't do that well on earth.
Probably the biggest fart in a bath is rl's banner "the greatest game".
Clearly it's not. Clearly it's not in Australia. Clearly it's not even in England where it was invented.
Clearly it's not in the world. That would be the "world game". No arrogance there. Soccer is played around the world.
Soccer should have stuck to the "world game" instead of trying to convert the noun "football" into an adjective.
Australian Football - says it so simply - football that is Australian designed and developed.
Fans of rl (both of them) say people disrespect rl when they refer to both rugby codes as "Rugby".
Well they are both contain "rugby" in their formal names.
Fans of rl (both of them) say people should refer to rl as "league", yet "league" is the level above "reserves".
It's not arrogance, but sheer stupidity to call a code after a common noun. We even have examples of RU "leagues".
Isn't the NRL a "rugby" league. Shouldn't it be a rl league - the NRLL.
So it'd be better for all if rl came out with a new name and slogan which concisely described the game.
e.g. THROWBALL - a great game for butheads derived from a game for bumsniffers

Re: Arrogance in Football
I think handball is appropriate as it's a game played by primary school children who USUALLY outgrow it with the exception of RL fans

Re: Arrogance in Football
I never understood why the competition is called the National Rugby League, if the name of the sport is Rugby League. It's like calling the AFL 'The Australian Football'. Always riles me when a throwballer chastises me for calling the sport 'rugby' insisting "it's not rugby, it's LEAGUE!" It'd be like talking about the NBA, calling the sport basketball, and having someone chuck a tanty insisting "The sport's not called basketball you idiot, it's called Association!"cos789 wrote:The arrogance of soccer trying to monopolize the word "football" has done soccer great harm.

No.
East Coast Rugby League.
Because that's all it has in it's competition. Three states and token international team further east. They should only earn the N in their name when they have teams in SA and WA. The AFL has teams in all the mainland states without exception.

Eel's take your meds - no one but TV presenters refers to soccer as the round ball game - but the arrogance of RL fans that refer to Australian Rules Football as AFL - you bum sniffers should clear all that shit out of your ears!eelofwest wrote:cos789 wrote:The arrogance of soccer trying to monopolize the word "football" has done soccer great harm.
