They don't need this extra money in the first place, and would face huge pressure from the clubs not to go ahead with it otherwise they'd just rest their best players anyway. If the AFL ever wanted more ratings they'd do what the nRL has done and sell out to television networks, practically giving them control of the entire schedule including weekly Monday night games.
