NRL GF beat the bumbleathon at the G comfortably

3 in 4 years
the NRL GF is going the way of Origin.... a juggernaut , a must see north of the murray.

with the kickoff time back to 7pm this year
look for a non Storm GF to be far bigger then in previous years twilight start..... & a Storm GF to challenge SOO3 as the biggest rating TV show in this nation in 2013
lol, sources? This should be good.

heres 2/3

http://www.crikey.com.au/2009/10/05/nrl ... es-the-AFL

The NRL Grand Final won by the Melbourne Storm has out-rated the AFL Grand Final. It was the second time in three years the NRL Grand Final has out-rated the AFL game, thanks to the presence (and eventual victory) of the Melbourne Storm in the final match of the season.

The Storm won the match played in Sydney and watched by 3.490 million people across all TV markets on the Nine Network. In Australia: 2.46 million viewers watched in the five metro markets, with 1.119 million on average watching Sydney, 650,000 in Melbourne and 535,000 watched Brisbane.

A further 1.080 million watched in regional Australia. In contrast 3.47 million people watched the AFL Grand Final in all markets: 2.704 million people watched the AFL Grand Final on the Ten Network in the five metro markets.

More than 1.42 million people watched in Melbourne, with the regional audience around the country adding a further 70,000 to the audience. In terms of the combined figure, that was better than the 3.135 million who watched the AFL match across the country last year and 3.329 million who watched in 2007.

The NRL Grand Final was the second highest in the current system of TV ratings, just behind the 3.748 million (2.422 million in the five metro markets) who watched the Storm win its second Grand Final in 2007. It’s now clear from the final series since 2005 in both codes that to get big national audiences, both codes need the presence of one out of Sydney/Melbourne Club.

locking in on 2006
which also beat the fumbles & bumbles at the G
RL SOO II 4.194 Million veiwers
RL SOO I 4.068 Million
NRL GF 3.968 Million
VFL Grand Final 3.620 Million
SOO III 3.364 Million
NRL Prelim 2.219 Million
Kangaroos V NZ 1.214 Million

Sookerwhos V Japan 238K

The AFL Grand Final had an AVERAGE of 3.847 million people watching over 3.5 hrs across Australia, if you add up regional and 5 capital city ratings.
(These ratings exclude country WA and SA)
Average Rural Ratings: 161,000 in Northern NSW, 127,000 in Southern NSW, 153,000 in Queensland, 383,000 in Vic, 145,000 in Tas. Unknown in WA and SA.
Average 5 Capital City ratings: 330,000 in Sydney, 1,501,000 in Melbourne, 278,000 in Brisbane, 426,000 in Adelaide, 343,000 in Perth

Obviously more than “70,000” people watched in rural Australia, infact it was at least 969,000 people and that doesnt count WA or SA cities and towns.

Before you write a story Glenn, get your facts in first please.

(I would also suggest that if you really want to comapare NRL and AFL TV ratings you need to look at peak and cumulative/reach ratings figures, as the AFL Grand Final figures are an average viewership over 3.5 hrs and the NRL Grand Final over 2 hours.)

I must say RD has been the most accurate thus far..

heres a top 5 (Aust only, metro+regional), including the 3 games above yet to play and any others from the remaining NRL and AFL seasons (finals incl, excl rep games) and any wallabies internationals remaining.

1. SOO game 3
2. NRL grand final
3. AFL grand final
4. all blacks vs wallabies game 1
5. ( i think an AFL granfinal qualifier will take this spot) unless its an NRL grand final qualifier with south sydney and another sydney club

what do ppl think of these.[/size]
i totally forgot about the MAN UTD vs A-LEague ALL STARS game. im thinking it will slot into the 4th position
