It's time!
With RL SOO on at the moment and their World Cup at the end of the year maybe its time to bring back SOO to the code who invented it. But with a twist, maybe we could have a SOO carnival once every 3 years in November with all states represented e.g. VIC, SA, WA, QLD/NT, NSW/ACT and TAS. Hold it over the month with each side playing each other once 1st goes thru to a final and 2nd and 3rd playing off to play first. AF has something RL will never have - players of AFL standard from EVERY state and Territory. At present RL has ONE born and DEVELOPED player outside of NSW/QLD. It would be huge! No doubt it would add another massive increase in TV ratings and revenue and no doubt provide another reason for kids to turn their backs on playing RL in the northern states. Yes it's time!

Re: It's time!
No, the AFL is too professional and nationally followed for meaningless state games imo.
If it ever were to happen again, it would just be Vic v All Stars, or maybe Vic v SA or Vic v WA or even WA v SA. But I strongly doubt this will ever happen.

Re: It's time!
Yeah it's getting closer with both NSW and Qld having a side that would challenge SA and bet Tasmania. Vic and WA would be out of their league though.

Wouldnt work. Too many teams, lopsided talent to draw from.
AFL fans just don't care about rep games. Club success is our pinnacle
The NRL have a natural rivalry with their strength in 2 states. The AFL are strong in 3 and have some good players from the others. We would need to manufacture a rivalry which would never match the NRLs natural SOO rivalry
Face it, its dead

Re: It's time!
That sounds like Kevin Bartlett talking! That's why I suggest we hold it once every three years - hold the draft off until after the series and have it all night games, separate from the regular season it could in time become our World Cup - at the moment what does All Australian mean? It's a side that doesn't play really just a medal not a trophy. It needs to be repackaged and kept separate from the H & A. Anyway could be a pipe dream but since I originally come from NSW would love to see a side play.Xman wrote:Wouldnt work. Too many teams, lopsided talent to draw from.

Re: It's time!
Unfortunately NSW don't have much depth. Vic could easily match the NSW midfield with players like Pendlebury, Murphy, Cotchin and Judd and have players like G Ablett, J Watson, Kennedy, Swan and half a dozen more to back them up on the bench, this would run the inexperienced NSW bench off their feet and it wouldn't be a contest. While NSWs best forwards such as Walker and Hawkins (been struggling with injury) have been injuried, any forwards in the Vic side such as Cloke, Petrie could easily be replaced by similar quality. NSW can not do this. NSW backline is also weak when it comes to defending the big guys, while Vic have quality and lots of replacements. The NSW side looks good compared to most AFL teams, but as a rep side they don't have what it takes to compete with Vic or WA. Now SA would be a different matter.Swans4ever wrote:Don't think so anymore NSW line up would bepiesman2011 wrote:Yeah it's getting closer with both NSW and Qld having a side that would challenge SA and bet Tasmania.
