Speaking purely from a neutral standpoint this sort of media publicity could only help GWS's profile. not because they're helping farmers (cos 90% of readers would forget the initiative within a day or two) but because it gives GWS some POSITIVE media attention(its not the usual in your face attention grabbing publicity they usually try) and some actual publicity(at a time where the clubs popularity and interest is so low that GWS gets the bare minimum coverage in Sydneys media).

I feel sorry for the GWS players. These guys get smashed every week but and they still try 100%, and they hold their disipline. their attitude on the field and their quiet and respectful attitude outside the game (ie you dont hear them making loud & stupid comments on the news just so to get attention). these guys dont self-promote or talk themselfs upact (like how the Swans did when they came to sydney). These poor guys will no doubtably be affected negatively playing for this team (how are they going to advance playing for GWS).

Unfortunately the people in charge of GWS were too Victorian centric and somewhat still are. down south AFL dominates all others by a long shot and the media therefore are less likely to question the AFL's directions and/or discissions down there. They came up here as the new guys on the block and instead of playing it quiet and respecting their place at the bottom of the pecking order like the swans did, GWS entered the market big noting themselfs and they didnt play the market in accordance to where they sat in the pecking order, GWS were loud and rude and were just like an AFL team would act in Victoria or any other AFL dominate market. Cos of this and other silly ideas like creating a useless team in a market that hasnt got enough interest for a team to start with.

The GWS brand will soon become complete poison, and if the AFL and its fans think thats bullshit than they are in utter denial. I mean poison by which not just Sydneysiders or potential fans stear clear but more importantly for the survival of the club Businesses, Sponsers and Corporate package companies will avoid if the GWS brand gets much worse. unlike the start of last year and in 2011 Sydney media has now caught on at how little sydneysiders are actually interested in this team so media interest is currently at the bare minimum, so therefore media attention like this is a start in the right direction.
