Penrith Panthers are they destined to go the way of Newtown.
NRL Hartland club on the brink:-
The NRL's latest basket case club have just been going from bad to worse - with their continual slide down the NRL ladder from the heady days of 2010 (2nd) - they have slide down to 12th in 2011 then 15th in 2012 with 2013 appearing to be another year where they are are likely not to figure in finals, (10th on percentage but tying with 4 clubs on 4 wins.)
But on field success is cyclical - off field it is a far more depressing story with their hotel group and lifeline in debt to the tune of 90 mil owed to the ANZ and their only hope being to sell of the farm.
The Panthers group losses in 2011 amounted to 11.96mil and in 2012. 1.6mil
The Football club again was hit by a massive decrease of revenue by 2.165 mil and posting a deficit of 3.708 mil - down from surplus of 2.193 in 2011
Were it the case there was a large loyal fan base there would be light at the end of the tunnel, however this is not the case.
Penrith's crowds whilst respectable in 2009 with an average of 13719 have gradually fallen to an average of 10567 for 2013. With 3 of top 5 NRL lowest crowds for 2013 and their last effort being against Melb Storm (2013 premiers) only 7803 bothering to attend. Memberships are also a real concern with only 5875 committed fans it looks downright bleak! Penrith a club in a steady decline in revenue and crowds and little hope for on field success one can only ask - are they to go the way of Newtown and North Sydney? Will the NRL media package ride to the rescue or will it be a bridge too far? I think that time will tell but IMO a team with no fan base and a steady decline in revenue without the backing of NRLHQ is destined to go the way of the DODO!

Yes Raiderdave keep telling yourself that - keep your head in the sand and try and ignor the inevitable. Penrith may as well receive the last rights - thats why your deflecting. Despite thier massive leagues club empire, the Panthers are a financial mess as you've highlighted above. They'll need to merge with fellow western Sydney strugglers Parramatta Eels within 5 years. There you go, that's my prediction.Swans4ever wrote:NRL Hartland club on the brink:-
