RL registered players in Victoria. The truth!
RaiderDave has always claimed that there are 2500 registered Victoria RL players, but this website, which is possibly out of date claims a figure of 700. So what is the true figure? This is a question for the masses. Please provide links.

what is more amusing is
registed players playing Aussie rules in NSW
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australian ... Queensland
Registered players 103,358 (total)
3,300 (adult)
that means there is a large amount of young kids playing AFL in NSW
the old Rugby game in the long run looks a dying game!

Re: RL registered players in Victoria. The truth!
Takes a strong body to play RL as an adult, if you don't have the muscle mass you get crunched twice as hard as a big bodied man. There are to many injuries for most. AFL has the harder hits, due to strange angles, players running at full pace and jumping into each other, but in RL there are a lot more hits, a lot more crunching tackles and with heavier bodies. Overall RL would be the harder of the two sports to recover for work from. Most choose not to play after they are in their early 20's, the stats show this.adamj1300 wrote:Registered players 700 (total)piesman2011 wrote:RaiderDave has always claimed that there are 2500 registered Victoria RL players, but this website, which is possibly out of date claims a figure of 700. 598,000 Australians played Rugby League on a regular basis in 2012
some 1.5 Million had a " rugby league " experience last year
167,000 are registered club players from ages 6- to 1st grade
430,000 are school children or participants in gala RL carnivals held all over Australia
the affiliated States of Victoria , WA SA Tas & NT enjoyed a 27% increase in participation in 2012
the game has never been played by more people & it is growing every year.

Fantastic mate, it is good to see the NRL finally get some money into non traditional markets, however do you have Vic numbers?Raiderdave wrote:598,000 Australians played Rugby League on a regular basis in 2012

I tell you what though the Perth rl website is very professional and looks like a decent rl presence there ... No where near AFL or soccer but you can sense done growth. I Victoria as we know very little rl ... Baseball is bigger and hockey . The storm are visiting schools though and maybe that's the 38000 Dave is talking about. League storms into AFL's fortress
Image
Crossed codes ... Greg Brentnall with Lucas Grech (blonde), Tom Goodwin (dark hair) and Cameron Hansen (tall, dark hair).
MEET the two AFL wunderkinds who have done the unthinkable in Melbourne: dumped Aussie rules for rugby league.
Tom Goodwin, the son of former Demons star Andy, and former Victorian under-14s captain Cameron Hansen are at the vanguard of a bold counterattack by the NRL on its rival code - in the heart of enemy territory.
And The Daily Telegraph can reveal the Victorian Government is backing the foray.
Following revelations yesterday that the AFL's second Sydney team has bombed, it has emerged the Victorian Government is giving rugby league $400,000 a year to take it to the AFL in Melbourne.
"The ARL committed a series of games down here," Victorian ARL development officer Dylan Hides said. "They included State of Origin matches and the World Cup. The Victorian Government came in to bed with us to put some serious money into the development of the game."
Former Kangaroos fullback Greg Brentnall, who also played senior AFL, is rugby league's general fighting for the code in Bleak City.
A Daily Telegraph investigation can reveal:
THE ARL, Victorian Government and Melbourne Storm are spending a combined $1.4 million to develop rugby league in the southern state;
RUGBY league club registrations have doubled in the past four years to 1450;
SINCE 2006, $8 million has been ploughed into Victorian rugby league;
A NATIONAL pathway to the NRL has been established with a Melbourne SG Ball (under-18) side and a Toyota Cup (under-20) side established;
RUGBY league has 94 teams playing in weekend competitions in Victoria, and;
MORE than 34,000 players participated in rugby league through Victorian schools.
"We are making steady inroads into the market on the back of our investment and the success of the Storm," Brentnall told The Daily Telegraph at a school rugby league carnival on the outskirts of Melbourne. "Even last year our club numbers went up 24 per cent which was very good in the current climate."
Like the AFL in Sydney, rugby league has recorded stunning growth in Melbourne schools with Joey League - a similar program to AusKick.
"Our biggest growth area is the schools," Brentnall said. "We have been able to put on some serious staff with the money.
"We have eight full-time development officers and a development boss. We also have a cultural officer (ex-Storm player Matt Rua)."
key points here
34,000 Victorian School Children were playing RL ... 4 years ago
I did make a mistake when I said 38K
its actually over 45K

94 club teams playing RL 5 seasons ago
1450 registered players , a 100% increase from 2005 ... &..... & .. that number has nearly doubled again
wow
do you feel like a dick ... cos you look like one !!

Re: RL registered players in Victoria. The truth!
No Dave , I said my son could not play rl where we lived in Victoria as there was no club or leauge . That remains the same and you went off on my saying rubbish and I was liar. I then asked you which club then was near us to play as we lived in Morwell? You still haven't answer so I looked and that when I found the Vic rl site. In there it lists all clubs in Victoria . There is one state leauge covering from Geelong to cranbourne with about 8 teams I think at under 10 level. I think I'm being generous with 8 teams by the way. There are three regional teams on the border I think in wodonga and sunraysia and one other . So I think I answered your question. ... I have written to rl Victoria and will report how many registered players there are.

Re: RL registered players in Victoria. The truth!
That's the thing you talk about links but I have never seen them. That age article talks about 94 teams but if you multiply this figure by let's say 15-18 the figure gets you to around 1400-1700. There would be more now hopefully but a proper link would be awesome.Raiderdave wrote:2500 registered club playerspiesman2011 wrote:Fantastic mate, it is good to see the NRL finally get some money into non traditional markets, however do you have Vic numbers?Raiderdave wrote:598,000 Australians played Rugby League on a regular basis in 2012

Edit missed the 1450 figure posted. So what you are saying is that league numbers have gone up about 80% in 4 years. Be interesting to see these numbers, with a link.
