A Queensland rugby league player has been jailed for attacking seven women, including a teenager and a 60-year-old, during a three-month crime spree.
Brisbane District Court heard this week that 28-year-old Lama Leroy Fred had a history of groping women and publicly masturbating, the Daily Mercury reports.
Crown prosecutor Ken Spinaz said his threatening behaviour, including masturbating in front of a woman and her baby at a public park, had caused fear and anxiety in the Mackay community for years.
He requested Fred be jailed for three to four years without parole for attacking the women, one of whom was seven-months pregnant.
But defence barrister Tim Ryan called for a suspended sentence given Fred had already served just under a year in jail.
He said his client battled alcohol and drug problems and had come under great stress when his partner was jailed for driving offences.
Judge David Reid sentenced Fred to three years' jail, suspended after time served.
He condemned the sportsman's actions, saying the attacks would have been "appallingly frightening" for his female victims.
