NSW/ACT AFL Players = 53 - VIC/SA/WA/TAS NRL Players = 1
Re: NSW/ACT AFL Players = 53 - VIC/SA/WA/TAS NRL Players = 1
Closest one I saw once was in doveton I think ? A good hours away. I only noted it as it was so rare to see a ground... Was playing baseball and there was a sign at the ground that it was also gone to a rl club. I'm not lying Dave, and as a rl fan you should also be concerned. There simply isn't a large presence ..2500 people across all ages in the city of Melbourne , if true, is quite small I would think. 150 clubs in Melbourne. I will google but is there a website for the Vic rl ?

Re: NSW/ACT AFL Players = 53 - VIC/SA/WA/TAS NRL Players = 1
Dave. Have you looked at the rl Vic page? Where did you get 150 clubs in Melbourne ??? There's not that many in the whole state from what the website says.
http://www.sportingpulse.com/assoc_page ... &sID=16865
I think they list 15 clubs for Victoria . And one of those is in goulburn? One doesn't have a ground . One, sunbury, lists two clubs ?? Am I reading it wrong?

No need it would be in the wrong thread. Most are Aussies with an international background, apart from the NZ and British players.eelofwest wrote:Wow do you want me to go into how many players the NRL has from ENG, NZ, FIJI, SAMOA, TONGA, PNG.piesman2011 wrote:Xman wrote:http://www.aflq.com.au/index.php?id=132
44 current AFL players from QLD's 4.5M.
Compare that to 1 NRL player from VIC SA WA & TAS, with a population of over 10 Million!!!!!![]()

So AFL in NSW/ACT/Qld 100 players compared to NRL Vic/SA/WA 1 player.
That just about sums up the difference in grassroots support at the moment. Get your act together NRL and pour some money into places outside your traditional areas in OZ.
Please i would rather the NRL build the game in NZ, FIJI, SAMOA, TONGA, PNG before they build it in Tas, SA.

If there's 150 clubs in that's an average of 1 club per 15 people. Maybe he means 150 teams.Phelpsy wrote:Closest one I saw once was in doveton I think ? A good hours away. Re: NSW/ACT AFL Players = 53 - VIC/SA/WA/TAS NRL Players = 1
There may be other figures as not sure where Dave got his from , but this is what found. Not many clubs but a start. You compare that to day baseball, which I think would have more teams.

In fairness the private school where kids are made to play a sport, some of them have rl as an option . Mainly kids not good enough for AFL or union, that's not a slur, just that they have to play a sport ... Don't think this is a great deal though

Still if you have to rely on those countries for most of your players then its not an Australian competition then is it and hardly national!eelofwest wrote:NRL players from Eng, PNG, Fiji, NZ, Samoa, Tonga.

Bearsy ... a know nothing of some note
the Storm already played a Born & Raised Melbournian last year in First Grade
Mahe Fonua & theres a host coming through their very strong system down there that will all play NRL =D> =D> =D>
Vicky kicky has had about 3 born & raised Sydneysiders , or Canberrans in 30 years
by 2018
RL will have had more born & raised Melbournains play NRL
then
Sydney born & raised players .. playing Vicky Kicky
Now your an expert on Melbourne - sorry Raiderdave but NRL has NO presence in East-Melb suburbs other than the storm, there are no local fields and NO-ONE would know where to go! However Rugby Union is far more prominent - RL has no presence if he played RL as a junior it would have been out west. Ur not going to get many from there. I think the only thing you and eel's have said and this proves - if you grow up in NSW/ACT and play AF you have a chance. If you grow up in Melb, Adelaide, Hobart or perth you have next to no chance. Kids just wont see RL in these states as an option and don't!

Re: NSW/ACT AFL Players = 53 - VIC/SA/WA/TAS NRL Players = 1
Now we get to the hart of it don't we Raiderdave - its not AF you hate its Melb! Its because the game comes from Melb you hate it - did you get cheated by someone from Melb Raiderdave and it has churned in you stomach ever since? Did a girlfriend cheat on you with someone from Melb and the hate still burns? What is it Raiderdave tell us all about those horrible Melb people! You are such an infant!Raiderdave wrote:Xman wrote:The thread isnt about Sudney v Melbourne dickhead.
53 v 1![]()

it was 53 V 0
but of course
Bearsy & facts don't belong in the same sentence
&
Im sorry
it is absolutely .... Sydney V Melbourne
& nothing else
Sydney is the only place in NSW that the VFL has teams fumbling bumbling & missing
while Melbourne is the only place the NRLhas a team in the Sthn States
the numbers look way less impressive for vicky kicky when its the Emerald City V the Anus of Australia

It Kieran and Brandon Jack from Melbourne? I thought his dad Garry Jack (played for Balmain, NSW and Australia) was born and raised in Illawarra? And his parents came from there as well? You have no idea what ur saying Raiderdave - do you even think - you look so infantile and stupid!Raiderdave wrote:Xman wrote:

My son 14, goes to school in Eastern suburb high school - he didn't get ur RL experience. Maybe instead of just mouthing off you could put some actual facts. Those stats are wrong - there are very few clubs spread over very large distances - its not a presence at all if it wasn't for the Storm most people wouldn't even know game existed - they all know rugby but!Raiderdave wrote:Phelpsy wrote:Well in Gold Coast you get a lot of ex pats, a lot of locals who have just gone for AFL, and some leauge people who have come across as their kids take up the sport. This later one I was quite surprised about. Doing my rostered BBQ duty and talking to a few dads , several in the group had come across from their kids playing rl. They still prefer nrl but said they can watch AFL now as understand the rules more. A big comment was how unprofessionally run the local rl comp is... They stated that the AFL comp is simply miles in front in looking after the teams and comp. The other issue was that there were to many islander kids that were far too big both height and size..., they said they just dominated the comp... So AFL suited their sons body type . I expect raider to make some derogatory comment about these children ... They're just kids Dave having fun... Let it go. The other thing was about the parents with a NZ rugby union man whose son just came back from a year in rl comp (diff time and place from other blokes I had conversation with ) with him stating he preferred women to have teeth ... Suggesting a pretty fetal population following junior rl.
The other thing is, whether it not the people coming through playing at AFL level are ex pats or not , the fact they have an avenue to play AFL and develop their skills to such a high level I think is the highlight of how Aussie rules had made a presence . If my son wanted to play rl when in Victoria he simply couldn't have ... There are it were no rl clubs whatsoever . He could play soccer, baseball , basketball , hockey, swimming, squash, tennis , and numerous other sports ... But not rl. There in lies the difference I think.
oh the rampant ignorance![]()
