Extended Home and Away Season?

Post by Beaussie »

Would it bother you much to see the pre-season cup abolished and an extended home and away season put in place? Most teams don't take the pre-season cup seriously anyway despite there being some good prize money on offer. I suppose it does provide a chance to experiement with new rules and try out the young players, however that aside, is it really worth keeping. I'd personally be very much in favour of an extended home and away season. Does anyone really care for the pre-season comp?

I think the pre-season is actually quite important and does play a healthy role for football these days. We've tried new things in them to test for the real season, and it adds a fun twist of a start to the football year.

Whilst teams don't take it too seriously, atleast it gives a chance for the perhaps less "glory given" teams as of late to win something (Carlton). The players also need to get their game back, and what better way than an actual football match, which doesn't exactly matter how you perform so long as you've gained some form.

I'm happy the way it is, also hope they keep the changes they've had, super-goal etc.

Yeah fair points SBR. Like you say it is a chance for the, as you put it "less glory given" teams to win something whilst also providing players with a chance to get match fitness. I suppose I'm biased when I say scrap it, as my team doesn't seem to ever take it seriously.

I agree super goals would be an exciting addition to the home and away season.

Home and Away. Yuk. I can't stand that shitty show. Neighbours is the go.

In all seriousness though, are you for an extended home and away footy season Grim or do you like the current format of 22 rounds. An extended football season might even see Collingwood venture out of Melbourne more than 4 times a year.

Would not help if VerminWood played all their game in Melbourne....they are scum and shit and would still get the wooden spoon....I hear that VerminWood sponsors terrorism so they will be history soon.

Despite my hatred for all things Collingwood, I must admit they have a very smart, business wise president. It never ceases to amaze me how many members and sponsors they have lined up year after year despite disappointment after disappointment.

Look at the similar poor form of Carlton. Why don't you see Collingwood in a similar situation financially etc? On field yes, but off field, you'd think the Magpies were regular Top 8 finalists.

That just shows the mentality of those sponsors who are throwing away their money. How do the shareholders think about this wanton waste of money on a lost cause?
