Rugby League Expansion in Australia

Post by Beaussie »

Where is it possible? Perhaps SA and WA?

As you can see, despite the loss of the Adelaide Rams, rugby league in SA has continued to grow:

Rugby League has been played in South Australia for 27 years. There are four senior clubs and six junior clubs located aroud Adelaide.

damnfunny

Meanwhile in WA, the growth of the code has been spectacular with 6 teams now making up the WARL:

Eastern
Fremantle
Joondalup
North Beach
Rockingham
South Perth

SA and WA aside, how about NSW and QLD, the so called heartland areas. Remember the Northern Eagles on the Central Coast and who could forget the Gold Coast Chargers/Giants/Seagulls?

damnfunny

Wonder how things are going in the VRL. No doubt with the Melbourne Storm representing the state, growth of the code would have been just as spectacular as SA and WA.

Is there a future for rugby league expansion in Australia?

Yeah i have got a time frame, in 5 years the super 14 will die, Perth team to become the Western Reds, Bumbies to Adelaide, QLD reds to become SE QLD Crushers and NSW tahs will end up dead.

Murdoc makes all his money back that he lost in superleague by helping union to get started in Aus, Making it impossible for anyone to watch union unless you have fox, they go broke and Murdoc gives them a choice to go to League or die, thus he don't have to spend any $$$ at all (like a typical rich cnut) to put teams in these states.

At the same time it kills union in Aus and helps League get back to where it would have been if (Murdoc) he had never been born.

I can dream can't i?

Perth will be back 1 day, but i don't know about Adelaide.

How the hell is yawn yawn going to survive in Aus without FTA?

It would be ok for AR and RL because they are part of Aus sport, union hasn't got enough support to keep it going.
They are the 1s that need FTA more than any other sport in Aus.

It will be interesting to see how the Perth community responds to their new Super 14 team. I think they stand a far better chance of success than the Western Reds.

I don't think Adelaide would ever embrace rugby league after the Rams debacle.
