Dave, do really think the swans get poor crowds ? Sure they may go up and down , but to draw 31000 is a place like Sydney where nrl is the main game, surely shows at least a niche market for the swans? Surely? The nrl would love the storm to get these types of crowds surely ?

And please I don't want to get into some inane arguement, and I won't , about decline and averages. It's a good crowd. Why do you try and find the negative all the time, it seems that if the swans had every seat filled you would try and find some reason to say this was bad. I'm not sure what the swans have to do for you to say "that's pretty good" , i am guessing there would be nothing. Maybe don't look at it as either /or re nrl and AFL, maybe nrl can be the dominant code in Sydney and swans can have a goods presence as we with a decent following ? Anyway, I think 31000 is a good crowd in a town where attending games is not part if the culture and also where nrl is the dominant sport .

31000 for Sydney is pretty good surely . Maybe the have declined in average crowd figures but still a good crowd. If they were getting 10000 to 15000 crowds regularly you could say bad crowd , but even that is on par with some nrl club crowds. Anyway, 31000 isn't it a bad crowd by any measure .

But 31000, whilst not as good as previous years, is still a good crowd compared to say nrl and soccer crowds in Sydney ...I would ask if you agreed but you wouldn't so just staying it as fact

Ever heard of cognitive dissonance ? You invest so much in believing something that when faced with evidence that contradicts this a person has to rearrange or assess that evidence so they can maintain there original belief. So if you're invested in believing nrl is better than AFL and nrl is more dominant than AFL in Australia, when you see some sort of threat to this, you first become more steadfast in your beliefs and defend them on the Reasonable evidence you have. However when you start to see facts, such as good crowd numbers, high membership etc rather than stating that the swans are doing okay you start rearranging the facts or interpreting them to confirm you beliefs that you have invested so much into (crowd numbers aren't real, crowds are not as high as last year so they are bad etch etc). This is especially hard when you have black and white thinking, that is, if AFL is doing okay in Sydney this means nrl isn't . Which clearly isn't the case. However if you have the polarity in thinking it is hard to hold the two. Especially when you clearly see day in and day out that nrl clearly is the main sport of choice in the populace at large in Sydney. So you become frustrated when you hear people talk of how well the AFL is doing in Sydney , because how could it when the nrl is doing so well, not realizing that the two aren't mutually exclusive.
