Trying to compare the NRL involvement with NZ and the AFL involvement is laughable. They may have some scheme to try and promote the game in NZ but are certainly nothing like a $100m dollar contract - a major market , No different to 7,9 or Foxtel. The NZ contract/agrrment would be nothing more than a scheme aimed at promoting the game in NZ. Certainly not something thats going to show on a financial statement, not in the profit section anyrate. Maybe in the losses section under expenses incurred from promoting the game. The NRL has many Such Schemes and understandings to promote the game overseas. One that readily comes to mind is there deal with ESPN. This is hardy an nrl market, certainly not something thats going to provide the NRL with 20% of TV revenue for the next 5 years.
How do you know the Gem figures and Metro figures have been added together for the 512 figure? I distinctly recall Beau figures showing the Metro number(512) as well as Gem number. If you think back to last year, I can recall many occasions where the original number were later updated with more accurate figure. If there are 30 metro users listed for gem it follows that 1/3 or 10 others regional parts of those states, just as the metro figure might be 300 with another 200 (2/3) watching in region areas of WA , Vic & SA. And this would be no different for there secondary channel - 7mate only the percentage for regional viewers reversed to 2/3 because they are now going to (NSW/Qld).
TAS, WA are included, they are seperate markets but can easily added on. As for SA, As the lady from Oztam said, ,the area outside the main catchment area is not worth worrying about'.
I looked up the population of people using diary markets (1908) - 1.5m.... Much has happen in TV since that time. Both Tasmania and Regional WA are covered now by regional Tam leaving few, and as I said earlier, There are as many or more areas in NSW/Qld not counted by Regional tam.
