Why is that?
Probably to do with the fact no Victorian team was present. It was hardly a major decrease anyway and still very impressive figures for the AFL and Channel 10. I'm sure they have no complaints. In addition, lets not forget that those figures only include the capital cities. The regional figures for NSW should also prove spectacular.
Just imagine what the figures would have been like if the AFL had a night GF. I think that is where the AFL is headed with the next broadcasting agreement. Also worth noting is the fact that the Saturday afternoon AFL GF outrated the NRL finals in Brisbane shown during prime time.

Would be approriate considering 2005 has been the best season of Rugby League ever.

Coming from such a low base of support it's not surprising that the NRL boasts it is the best season of rugby league ever. What was that increase in average crowds again? 400 odd?
Will be interesting to see the national TV figures next week. As has always been the case, I suspect the AFL will once again hammer the NRL in the TV ratings for each codes GF. Do you think the NRL has any chance of topping the AFL GF figures?
