So you think that comparing 2 different sports, 2 different population areas and 2 codes that have vastly different membership history and funding is fair and reasonable??

Like I said you are better off comparing Collingwood to port.

Comparing the lowest budget of teams from both codes gives you a good insight into which is the richer sport.

No it doesn't show which code is richer. It show which code is wasteful. Talking about waste is +$200 mil into the sun and gws!! We all know the tv execs sat down and worked out that the nrl is worth more per minute and paid accordingly!

Wasteful lol! A clubs football budget is important to them for attracting the best personnel to the team and having the best facilities which can lead to better performances.

Port might have to let go of 1 or 2 of there 15-20 strong "essential" masseurs! Oh no.

AFL clubs are non for profit. They budget for an expected revenue and plan to spend all of it. If they have a poor year on and off the field they often make a loss. They usually address this the next year.

Its far easier to cut costs than find more revenue.

The thing is the dont have the money!!! But yet they still spend it!!

No, you still don't get it. The teams who make a loss dont are due to poor performance, less gate receipts, less memberships etc. there is also one offs like investments, like the lions.

These teams adjust their expenditure in future years to account for the loss.

AFL clubs have far higher revenues than NRL clubs and can afford to cut costs to balance the books. The same cant be said for many NRL teams, like the sharks, because their expenditures are already bare bones.

NRL now have over 200,000 club members, well up from this time last year or any year before that. My prediction 230,000 by the end of the year (which will be another record breaking membership year), seems like the strategic plan is already working. 400,000 members by 2017 seems impossible especially for a code that's always getting itself in turmoil but the way things are going it now seems very possible.
