Yep. The regular year in year our members are now just re-signed automatically, so their numbers come in straight away rather than waiting for them to fill out paper work and send it back in. Add to that the proliferation of the internet and the ease in which people can sign up online in a few minutes. People don't wait for family day anymore, they just sign up when they have a few spare moments in front of a computer.
This is a major factor too. I'd love to see what percentage they make up of overall membership totals for the clubs that offer these small game packages.
You are absolutely right. The surge is based on three factors.
1. The internet
2. Direct debit banking
3. Cheap limited game mamberships
Comparing numbers now with past numbers is not comparing like with like![]()

The average crowds of both codes shows how far ahead our memberships are

Oh and Essendon, the club I support, has requested an investigation into supplements their fitness staff provided players last season. These are not illicit drugs you complete f wit. It also has nothing to do with either of their drugs policies since their performance enhancing drugs policy follows ASADA and WADA, like everybody else!
Moron!

Re: AFL vs NRL (Memberships in 2013)
Xman your really naive. After weeks of AFL CEO saying there will be an increase in drug cheats this year (2012) they finally have a drug summit. They talk sh!t for 8 hours and CEO tells essendon to explain and forces there hand. Hence why they had press conference today to tell everyone that essendon are clean and it was solely the scape goats problem. Essendon are stupid if they think the public will believe that it is 1 persons sole responsibility to prescribe SUPPLEMENTS (aka drugs) to the entire club without any problems. If the players were so against it why did they take it? The truth will come out Xman. Essendon drug cheats. AFL drug policy sure is strict!!Xman wrote:Yep, I also understand the difference between supporters and viewers.Storm2013 wrote:You need to get out more!! Read the news! The summit was on illicit drugs. This is a problem in society and is evident in every sport, including the NRL. The summit wasnt on drug cheats!

Essendon are initiating an investigation to see if they have either seen a deliberate or incidental use of a supplement including a substance banned as a PERFORMANCE ENHANCING DRUG. Why the hell would they give their own players supplements with illicit drugs!

Seriously, do some research and try to refrain from commenting on issues you have NFI about!

Re: AFL vs NRL (Memberships in 2013)
http://www.theaustralian.com.au/sport/e ... 6570941170SHOCKED Essendon officials have called for an AFL investigation into supplements given to players last season.
At a hastily-convened press conference this afternoon, cllub chairman David Evans said his club had reacted to “information” received over the past 48 hours in relation to the Bombers’ 2012 fitness program, and was seeking a “clean bill of health”.
Evans met yesterday with acting AFL general manager of football operations Gillon McLachlan and chief integrity officer Brett Clothier before seeking the assistance of the Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority.
“Following that discussion we requested the AFL commence and immediate investigation,” Evans said.
ASADA has also started an investigation.
While Evans gave up little to no new information and denied any link to performance-enhancing drugs, he described the revelations as “distressing” while coach James Hird said he was in shock.
“We believe as a club we’ve done everything to be compliant with the rules and regulations of the AFL and ASADA,” Evans said.

Re: AFL vs NRL (Memberships in 2013)
You're plain wrong! The summit was on illegal drugs. The big talking point was the BS policy AFL have about reporting illicit use out of competition. So lets get that straight. And I agree it can effect every sport .... Just some sports more than others!!Xman wrote:you actually don't understand the difference between illicit drugs and performance enhancing drugs do you?Storm2013 wrote:Xman your really naive. I'm my head an illegal drug is an illegal drug illicit or performance enhancing, doesn't matter. I'm not sure why you keep bringing up the illicit drug thing (It seems close to your heart) but this is about during competition. I don't have the answer for you on why they would give there players drugs.
With asada most testing is looking for abnormal levels of hormones which naturally occur in the body. It's a fine line to balance what's to much and what's not. Essendon simple went to far hence cheats. But hey apparently Xman is the only one that has any idea!

Re: AFL vs NRL (Memberships in 2013)
They were talking about this issue on the radio this afternoon. This is what was said by sports SEN: Rumour has it an ex employee has spread rumours that Essendon players were given a sports supplement by the previous sports science team which may have contained a substance that is banned by ASADA, ie performance enhancing. This is news to the Essendon hierarchy and coaching staff, so rather than let rumours fester and their motives be questioned they've asked ASADA and the AFL to conduct a full investigation. Either they are punished for deliberately or accidentally using a supplement which includes a banned performance enhancing drug or they are cleared. Either way the club has come out on the front foot. While I don't entirely trust their previous fitness staff, including the "weapon", I absolutely trust James Hird, the CEO and the president who are extremely honourable people. What happens happens.Storm2013 wrote:Why the hell would they have a press conference if there was no problem??????????Xman wrote:http://www.theaustralian.com.au/sport/e ... 6570941170SHOCKED Essendon officials have called for an AFL investigation into supplements given to players last season.

However, your ignorance regarding illicit or performance enhancing drugs, and the policies governing each, is staggering.
