My bad but the NRL number says it totalled 134 million in 2011 and that the AFL got a total of 12 million less so that is 122 million for the AFL in 2011 but the Australian paper said that the AFL for 2011 got 113 million. So which paper and result is correct? Could it be that the Sydney Herald includes extras for the AFL like the preseason comp and perhaps the crowd totals while the Australian article doesnt inlcude the preseason comp and crowd totals?

Yes that was last year and the NRL ratings for NRL competition went up 1% and the SOO ratings were up 10% in 2012, now xman if that little brain of yours can add up that would put us above last years ratings which was 134m without NZ.

There is a few other things that you could take into consideration as well when it comes to the AFL broadcast. The AFL season was broadcast on Testra Tbox this year and im not sure if there is any way to calculate the numbers from the Tbox watchers. Every game could be seen live from a Telstra phone for a years fee of $50 and I watched a few games on the phone this year. I heard a rumor (couldnt be stuffed looking it up) that over 1 million people payed for the AFL season this year on their Telstra phones. Both codes have people watching them in pubs and clubs as well and I have seen plenty of bums on seats watching games at the pub.

But I coluld counter this and say that the total AFL content watched on TV would be a lot more then RL (total acculumative audience wise). If I was to compared hours watched as I have stated before the AFL would come out about 150 million hours ahead of RL (games only, God only knows how much the difference would be if you compared total AFL content with RL content on TV). But for some reason RL followers tend to blow this off as unimportant. What I dont understand is why 3 hours of my life (watching an AFL game) is only worth the same as 2 hours of a RL followers life.

An answer to your other question...........NRL is just more valuable as a tv product hence the more dollars per minute with the initial 1.035b Nine/Fox deal, now add the Online mobile and NZ Sky deals and the NRL as a product is worth way more then the AFL.

The AFL won the normal season comp ratings total accumulative viewers per game (as printed in the Australian)
The AFL beat all of the RL numbers for OZ and NZ for total hours viewed by hundreds of millions of hours (Goes without saying)

The RL may have won the total accumulative viewers per game V AFL for OZ and NZ if you dont count phone and Tbox viewers. (by the way this was a made up stat that was used in the first place to make RL look good in newspapers )(but this has yet to be printed for 2012)

So the NRL gets to add its SOO, Tests (some of which may include non NRL players) ect but the AFL doesnt get to add its AFL run preseason comp played by AFL players. Does the AFL get to add its under 18 comp or its VFL/SNFL/WAFL comps? Or its TV shows? If the NRL gets to add its Toyota cup ratings played by many non NRL payed players? Like I said earlier the AFL would come way out if front if you want to play those games. Even if the AFL was able to add its accumulative phone viewers. With more then 1 million subscribers all watching at least 15 games on their phones (out of a total of 200 games) thats 15 million more viewers. Then you could probabaly add an extra 5 million from Tbox viewers. That would beat the RL ratings for OZ and NZ but I dont know what the numbers are for sure and my name isnt RaiderDave so I wont play that game yet.

Listen to yourself. The NRL may get close to the AFL TV deal as a total and good luck to them if they do.They deserve it with two friday night games, 2 saturday night games, a sunday twilght/night game and a monday night game. They may even exceed it although I doubt it and it will probabaly be impossible to tell due now to the NRL failing to disclose the amount of money for the online/naming rights. Dollars per minute? I didnt realise we payed Players, comentators, coaches and officials by the minute.
