Even if it is level pegging the NRL have got nothing extra to show for it. The AFL have 2 supported teams in new cities which will help grow the code nation wide.
the NRL has nothing to show for it 8-[ .... it hasn't even happend yet d head .. this is from 2013 onward
what we will show in the coming years .. is the VFL... the door .. in NSW & QLD

all the VFL have to show for their 30 years on this side of the murray ... is 4 clubs that either cost them a mint .. are costing them a mint .. & will continue to cost them a mint for years to come

Expansion costs time and money. The AFL are way ahead. The NRL still struggling to stay viable in their own backyard.

Really? You want to open this door? Ok then

Lets see.

In the time since South Melbourne moved to Sydney -
The NSWRL/NRL had Superleague, the demise of the Adelaide Rams, Western Reds, Hunter Mariners, 3 generations of Gold Coast with the current version - the Titans run by an idiot who nearly ran them into the ground, Melbourne who would be dead in the water if they werent bankrolled by News Ltd. three mergers and one demerger which effectively killed of North Sydney. The Rabbitohs were gone...and hey what now they are back. Has 3/10ths of bugger all players outside NSW and QLD, and tv ratings that reflect it.

and
In the time since South Melbourne moved to Sydney -

the VFL has or will spend.. wot ... 1.5 Billion ? by 2016 .... in NSW & QLD
on 4 teams ... that still can barely attract 50K veiwers on FTA TV

that have stagnate participation levels ... & in real terms ... doubling their presence in both states .. have actually gone backward
have only produced about 3 players in NSW from outside the Riverina
no players in the national draft for the 2nd year in a row from NSW
& the smallest numb from QLD for quite a while

has the same number of members & fans for 44 games a year in NSW & QLD
that it did for 22

lets be clear
its been a disasterous flop for vicky kicky .. their venture into NSW & QLD
best admit defeat ... & pack up while they still can
& f off back across the murray

door closed

How long is a piece of string? Basketball hasnt grown much in 30 years. The fact is expansion into new markets takes many years. The fact the lions and swans have got to where they are now, and the number of AFL players has increase in nsw and qld is a credit to them. Look at the storm, theyve effectively shrunk in 15 years of astounding success.

Swans have been the highest drawing team across all codes in Sydney for 18 years in a row

When flying the Lions outdrew the Broncos, the biggest club in the nRL.

In their first year the Suns outdrew the Titans, in their second year (with only 3 wins) they came awfully close to doing it again.

The Giants outdrew the Raiders and were on par with Penrith, in their first year ever, while recording only 2 wins.

Compare this with the Storm who - even when flying - have never had an average attendance higher than any Melbourne AFL team. Not even the 'Roos.

If 'no one gives .. or will ever give .. a cr@p' about our four expansion teams, what does that say about the Storm?

Raider, you have continually made up unsubstantiated drivel. The difference in revenue is still going to be 500 million regardless of "attributal costs". As for attributal costs of 1.3 billion - even the AFL doesnt believe that and costs it signifcantly higher at that. The AFL has always contributed around half its income to the clubs in distributions and grants and that is no different here - that figure described by the AFL as 1.1 billion on its own.

The AFL is a non profit organisation whose sole game is the promotion of Australian Football and the running of the Australian Football League. They arent a savings bank. The AFLs income will be around 2.l billion cash and the NRL will get about 1.56 billion cash. End of story. It doesnt matter who spends more, if we really wanted to go into financial strength we'd also talk assets and how the AFL has 200 million in assets and 97 million in net assetrs where the NRL has..um..that new hq they just built.

And then we'd talk how AFL player numbers by both its own and government survey data across the country make it the fastest growing contact particpation over the last decade, and how rugby league isnt even close. We could talk about how recent data from ratings agencies put the AFL ahead of the NRL over the course of 2012. We could talk about how the AFL enjoys massive support in all levels of government, reflected in the building of not 1, not 2, but 3 new stadiums, and 2 complete overhauls specifically for Australian Football - while the NRL tries to figure out if it can get funds for leeetle suburban jobs. We could talk about the 7 million attendees and the 650,000 members, but at the end of the day you live in your own little world.
Well said Wookie. =D> I think Raiderdave missed it though? He forgot to reply to it

Yep, and it's only a matter of time before the Lions are up again and regularly outdrawing the Broncos. The Giants will be winning soon and leaving nRL clubs like the Sharks, Roosters and Panthers in the dust whilst obliterating the pathetic Raiders

An extra $180 mill today for the NRL, I'd say when comparing, the NRL is in front simply because they don't have a GWS noose around their neck or 5.

$180 mill in the bank today while one VFL team in Sydney has just cost $200+ million, hmmmmmm, which is better?
